    Creating Forever

    The Charleston Series Book 2

    Sue Langford

Dedicated to my two biggest fans – To my Mom and Dad

"Love isn't finding someone to live with.

It's finding someone you can't live without." —

    Al E. Gater

    Chapter 1

When she showed up on his doorstep after so long, he thought he was dreaming. He’d listened to car after car, truck after truck pass by the beach house and hoped that she’d hear the sound of her truck pulling in. Even if she just walked down the beach and showed up, he was fine. He needed her. He needed her like people need oxygen. Like you need water, food, shelter. He needed her more. She was his inspiration and had been since that first day. When she did show up, he almost fainted. It was like she was one heck of a sexy mirage.

The waves were still hitting the white sand beach, the sun was still rising and setting, but life wasn’t the same. Not when she wasn’t there. Now, somehow the sun was brighter, the waves were stronger, the salt air was more calming. She was part of him that had finally clicked back into place.

I’m still finding it hard to believe that you’re really here, Jaxon said as he curled her into his arms.

Did you really think that I wouldn’t be here? Jaxon, I don’t think I stopped thinking about you the entire time I was in Nashville. Even when I went back to my place in Savannah, I just wanted to get in the truck and drive straight over here. I missed you, Mia said.

I swear, I almost willed you into showing up. I jumped every time I heard a car or a truck go by, he teased as he snuggled her even closer.

So, now that you got the film deal and everything what’s next?

Well, that’s sort of why I was counting down to you being here, he said.

Jaxon held on so tight that he thought he’d crush her, but his body wouldn’t let go. If she was a hallucination, he didn’t want to lose that feeling all over again.

Why do I feel like there’s a bomb over my head about to drop, Mia asked.

    I wrote the script already.

You do realize how big that is right? Nobody gets to do their own script Jaxon.

I know. There’s one other part that I may need your help with. Asking her to do it was a big ask. A major one. He almost worried that it was too much. She’d just come back to him. Asking was gonna either make or break the whole moment.

She could feel that he was petrified to even ask, but she had to know that he’d never drop a bomb like that. At least on an empty stomach anyway. Jaxon, just say it handsome.

Let me make us dinner first, he said stalling as best he could. He was too scared to even ask.

She knew deep down that he was stalling. At least let me help, Mia said as she watched him put the low country boil together for them and put it on the element to cook. Jaxon, just say it.

He kissed her, devouring her lips and smirked. So, do you remember when I told you that you could do anything, he asked.

Tell me you didn’t get them to let me write songs for the soundtrack. He kissed her.

You’re why the book is even there Mia. She shook her head.

Nothing like some more pressure, she teased.

We’re together. That’s what we needed to do all of it the first time baby. She shook her head.

You owe me Jaxon. You owe me big.

He kissed her again. They gave me the contract to give you. I didn’t want to add to the pressure you had while you were up in Nashville.

    Promise me something Jaxon.

    What?

That you’re gonna let me read the book before I have to write the songs. She’d wanted to read it since he had started writing, but he’d never let her before.

He kissed her and sat her on the counter. You sure you want to?

    Jaxon.

He kissed her. I get it, but I don’t want you to end up picking a fight about it, he said as he kissed her.

Are you gonna tell me what it’s about at least, she asked. Jaxon shook his head.

Mia, the book started out as an idea and you inspired one of the characters.

Does this mean that you wrote it about us, she asked knowing that the real answer was yes.

This means I wrote it about two people who fall in love with each other. The main character was inspired by you.

    And?

It has a little about us in it. That’s all I’m sayin, he teased. If he’d told her that it was about them, she never would’ve let him.

Jaxon, I get that you had writer’s block and all, but you seriously wrote a story about us but with different names didn’t you?

He kissed her, determined to not divulge any of it.

I wrote it and they’re putting it on film. That’s it, he said as he did his best to distract her from thinking about it or asking any more questions.

They finally sat down to eat and she shook her head. What, he asked as Mia smirked and had dinner with him. For the first time in months, she was right in front of him.

I get that you’re all happy that I’m back and all, but you do realize that you’re gonna tell me all the details right?

Mia, I edited that dang book for weeks. It killed me doing it and knowing that you were going to Nashville…it hurt my dang heart. I can’t even be at that house without you. She shook her head and kissed him.

Jaxon, I get it, but I don’t exactly think it’s a good idea to have our entire relationship on a movie screen.

Do you really want to read it? She nodded.

At least I’d know what I had to write. I know that you’re not gonna just hand over a manuscript, but…

Mia, I have a copy. I just don’t want you getting mad.

And which part would I be mad at Jaxon?

A section of the story with a few things that you really didn’t want to ever think about happening in the story.

Mia shook her head. I don’t even want to talk about her.

It started out being about you and me, then it went its own way. Part of it was us but the rest of it was a storyline of its own.

So long as you didn’t opt to include her in it. It wasn’t a secret that she hated Shelly after what she’d done, but knowing that he’d included her in the story about killed her. They finished dinner and she hadn’t got an answer.

    Jaxon.

Not her, but a similar situation. Babe, I promise you that it’s not what you think it is.

    Jaxon.

Do you want to read it tonight?

Mia nodded. Maybe tomorrow, she said.

And what exactly did you have planned for tonight there beautiful?

She smirked and helped him clean up. I had a few ideas.

And what were these ideas woman of mine, he asked as he slid his arms around her and sat her on the counter.

Well, first off, getting a decent night of sleep since I couldn’t sleep since I left, Mia said.

Part of him was almost happy to hear that she missed him. Then we should probably get some sleep. First off though, come for a walk?

She looked at him with a grin. Thought you’d never ask handsome. He kissed her, wrapped her legs around him and walked outside. He sat down on the porch swing and she kissed him. I missed you, Mia said.

He kissed her, devouring her lips and snuggled her as close as he could. I missed you more, he replied. They were making out like two hormonal teenagers for a good half hour before they managed to get up. Finally, he got up and they walked down the beach hand in hand.

What, he asked as he caught her staring.

I was just thinking. Is that why you were so dang determined not to show me what you were writing?

Mia, you wouldn’t show me your music either. You didn’t even want me to hear what you were singing.

I know, but still. If you were writing it about us…

It was kind of hard not to. We were together every single day Mia. We were out wherever, writing side by side. How could you not be part of it, he teased.

She shook her head. Jaxon, I need to read it.

So long as you don’t get mad at me, I’ll give you the copy to read in the morning. How’s that work, he asked as he snuggled her to him.

I think that’d work. They wandered and when they were heading back, the rain started. Go figure, Mia teased. Mia.

What? He stopped her as the rain started.

    Jaxon.

Do you want to stay and be with me Mia?

We can’t just discuss this inside or something?

    Mia.

    Come inside.

Do you want to be with me? He needed the answer. He needed to know that she still wanted him. That she still needed him like he needed her.

She nodded and he pulled her into his arms and kissed her. Inside, Mia said. He picked her up and wrapped her legs around him and she smirked. Inside. Jaxon nodded, held her tight to him and walked into the house, closed and locked the door behind him and walked right into the bedroom leaning her onto the bed.

Mia pulled his shirt off and he slid her shirt over her head, knocking it to the floor. Mia.

    Kiss me.

He kissed her, getting that much more turned on. When she went for the button of his jeans, he stopped her.

    Babe.

What, Mia asked as she undid the button.

    Stop for a minute.

    What, Mia asked.

Are you sure, he asked almost worried that it was just because they’d been apart. Like it was a test he was about to completely and utterly fail with flying colors. It wasn’t that he didn’t want her and want every single inch of her wrapped tight around him, but he almost wondered if anything had happened when they were apart. It was a worry he'd had since she left to go to Nashville.

He'd had nightmares over and over since she’d left that she was with someone else. That she’d found someone to keep the other side of her bed warm. Fine, she was at Brad’s and he wasn’t exactly competition, but she never said a word about anyone else being with her. She could’ve slept with one of the musicians, she could’ve been with half the damn industry.

    Jaxon.

    Are you sure that…

Mia kissed him and undid the zipper of his jeans. He couldn’t pretend that he wasn’t worried that she’d been with someone else. He couldn’t just sleep with her knowing that he could be in a position to tell her that they were using condoms because he didn’t trust her.

Am I sure what, she asked.

You sure you don’t want to…

She kissed him, pulling his jeans off with her feet. Want to what?

Use… Before he could get the words out, she kissed him again.

We don’t need to. He tried shaking it off, but she was almost insistent. He peeled her shorts off and slid the lacy lingerie off.

    Mia.

I want my man, she said. He kissed her and she pulled his boxers off.

What are you up to, he teased.

Too long without you. I missed you, she said as he kicked his boxers to the floor. He couldn’t hold himself back. He’d lost his restraint the moment that he saw her walk onto his back porch. She felt so good it was almost illegal. They kept going until he thought his body would implode.

Mia, he said as she kissed him again, devouring his lips and held on even tighter. When his body gave in, hers throbbed around him and her nails dug into his skin. He knew why she was so dang addictive. Every inch of her was exactly what he wanted. What he’d craved the entire time she was gone. The fact that he still worried in the back of his mind that she’d been with someone else nagged at him. When he leaned to his side, she slid her leg around his and snuggled to him.

I know something is on your mind, Mia said as his arm wrapped around her and he kissed her forehead.

Just overthinking about a million things.

    Just ask the question Jaxon.

He shook his head. I’m not ruining the mood Mia. Not when I just got you back.

Just say it, she said as he pulled the blanket up.

Is it bad that I’m almost worried that you found someone…

    Jaxon.

    Did you?

I saw friends I haven’t seen in a long while. I hung out and wrote every night with Brad. I went out with my old girlfriends once in a while since I was there, but if you’re asking if I was with someone else, I wasn’t.

    Mia.

Jaxon, I couldn’t. You should know that.

    We were apart for…

She kissed him. I know. Jaxon, I couldn’t. I know what it felt like when it happened to me. I wasn’t about to put that on you when you were already as upset as I was about having to go back to Nashville.

It kills me to even think it, but if you were…

Mia kissed him. Don’t go there. Jaxon just don’t. I wouldn’t. I missed you something big, but I couldn’t.

He kissed her. Is it bad that I was worried about it? She shook her head.

Jaxon, I promise you that nothing happened other than me hanging out way too much with Brad, Mia teased.

    And, he asked.

I wrote a couple songs about you and me. Sorta like that story you wrote, she teased.

Babe, you are and will always be the one that inspires me. I knew that the day that you got here. Now, you’re back in my arms, I might just get that sequel done, he joked.

Jaxon. He kissed her, snuggling her closer to him. Jaxon, really though, I want to read it. He kissed her.

Do you want sleep first, he teased as she leaned in and kissed him.

I missed falling asleep in your arms, she said as she snuggled in closer.

I’ll email it to you in the morning. That work, he asked. Mia nodded and they both managed to nod off not long later getting the first bit of sleep that either of them had managed since they were apart.

Despite trying to sleep, Jaxon was wide awake at 5am. Mia was nestled in beside him and he wanted to stay in bed, but he couldn’t. She could say a million times over that she hadn’t been with anyone else, but he had a sick feeling that in a moment of revenge, she’d been with someone else. It had gone around and around in his mind since she left for Nashville. He hoped that she was telling him the truth, but the more he thought about it, the more he really wondered.

    Jaxon, go back to sleep.

He kissed her head and snuggled her. I have to get up.

    No.

Mia, baby, I love that you want me to stay in bed, but I need to get up and work on the book. She shook her head and kissed him.

    Jaxon.

He kissed her and she slid into his arms and he shook his head.

    Mia, baby.

    She kissed him. Just stay.

    I’ll make breakfast then.

Fine, but tomorrow we’re sleeping in. Jaxon kissed her and got up, pulled on his joggers and a hoodie, and went and put coffee on.

He poured himself a mug, put one in a travel mug and flipped the coffee off. He put a lid on it to keep it warm for Mia and went out to the back deck to write. He was another 10 pages in when she came outside in his t-shirt, joggers and with her coffee in hand.

You get writing in, she asked as she yawned.

Enough. You sleep any better? She slid the laptop off his lap, putting it on the table and slid into his lap.

No. Not when you vanished on me.

And what would you like now, he asked. She kissed him and he pulled her legs around him.

Mia, what are you up to?

Nothin, she teased as she went to unzip his hoodie.

    Mia.

She kissed him. I know that something’s wrong Jaxon. Tell me.

    You’re gonna be mad.

Jaxon, just say it. Whatever it is, just spit it out.

I know you won’t lie to me Mia. Are you sure there was nobody else while you were there?

She looked at him. Jaxon, since the dang day we went on a damn date there hasn’t been. Why would you really think that I would ever do that, she asked.

Because we were apart for what felt like forever. It was too long. Way too long.

    Jaxon, really?

He kissed Mia hoping that she hadn’t cheated. Not even tempted?

I talked to you every day that I could Jaxon. I hung out with friends. That’s it. Platonic, friends that know I have a man. I promise you that.

Mia, I was worried the entire time you were gone.

Why? Did you seriously think that I’d do that after everything that happened when you know who got in the middle?

He shook his head. I’ll make you breakfast. Come on inside.

    Jaxon, sit down.

He shook his head and got up, sliding her to her feet and walked inside. He made breakfast and Mia walked inside.

    Jaxon.

I don’t want to be reminded of it Mia.

That’s not what I meant Jaxon. He shook his head and made breakfast, putting it on the counter. He took his outside with a big mug of coffee in the other hand.

    Jaxon.

He shook his head and sat down on the porch swing on her old side of the house. He didn’t want any more drama. He didn’t want any more reminders of his mistakes. All he wanted was her without her throwing his mistakes in his face. He finished his breakfast and took a deep breath. When he came around to the other side of the porch, she was sitting on his porch swing.

    Let me see the book.

Mia, not right now. He took his dishes inside to see everything clean. He put his dishes in the washer and went to hop into the shower. He turned the water on, got undressed and slid in. Not two minutes later, she slid her arms around him and kissed his back.

    Jaxon.

    What?

    Are we alright?

Mia, I was worried about it. I was scared that you’d never come back here. I was about to crumble when you showed up. He was lucky the water was flowing or she would’ve seen the tears streaming down his face.

    Jaxon.

He shook his head, finished his shower and she kissed him.

    Jaxon.

Don’t throw that in my face Mia. Just don’t. He stepped out and wrapped a towel around his hips, freshening up and shaving.

Jaxon, Mia said as he heard the water stop and heard her walk over to him as he finished shaving.

What, he asked as he washed off the last of the shaving cream.

    Look at me.

He shook his head and turned to face her.

    I’m sorry, she said.

Mia, I made a mistake with her. A big mistake. Part of me worried that you’d go do the same damn thing to get back at me for it. Call me stupid if that’s what you want. I was worried. He shook his head and went back into the bedroom, got dressed and pulled his hoodie on.

When Mia came into the bedroom, he was already outside, laptop in hand and writing. She slid her shorts and hoodie on and walked outside.

    Jaxon.

    Yep.

    What are you doing today?

Writing. That’s all I had planned, he said trying not to look her in the eye so she didn’t see the red eyes from crying.

Then we can go on a little excursion?

    Depends, Jaxon said.

Come with me. He took a deep breath, put his laptop in his bag and grabbed his iPad and the keyboard.

Where did you want to go?

    Just get in. I’ll drive.

    Mia.

Jaxon, please. He shook his head, grabbed his keys, wallet and phone, locked up and went around the front and hopped into the truck with her. Coffee, she asked.

I’ll buy, he replied as they went and grabbed iced lattes. He hopped back in, handing hers to her and they headed off. Where are we going, he asked.

You’ll see when we get there, Mia teased as they headed down the road and onto the bridge into town.

    Mia.

We’re going to the one place where we actually talk. It’s too murky out there not to, she replied.

Cypress Gardens? She nodded. Mia, I get why you’re doing this, but it’s not gonna change anything.

You were mad because you thought I messed around Jaxon. You know that I’m not that person. I’m not gonna do it to get back at you.

Mia, that’s what ran through my dang head all day and night when you left. I couldn’t talk to you; I couldn’t see you. I know why you were there, but you can’t even understand how it felt knowing I couldn’t be with you. I wanted more than anything to get on a dang plane and run to your side. I wanted to fall asleep with your arms around me. I wanted to be with you. I couldn’t. You wouldn’t let me be there. Mia shook her head. She brushed off the feeling she had and ignored what she really wanted to tell him.

They pulled into Cypress Gardens, paid their entry fee, and walked the pathway. Jaxon was way too quiet. Hell. He knew her better than she thought he did. When they made it to the gazebo, he sat down and just as she was about to take out her notebook, he took it from her and sat on it. What are you doin Jaxon?

You want to tell me what you’re hiding then since I know there’s something, Jaxon asked.

    It’s nothing.

Mia, look me in the dang eye and tell me that. When she looked at him, he was staring into her soul. Say it, he said.

    Say what?

Whatever you’re hiding. Mia, say it.

    Jaxon, I’m not hiding anything.

Then look me in the eye. She looked at him and he shook his head.

    Give me the keys.

    Why?

    Mia.

    What do you want Jaxon?

Tell me what you’re intentionally hiding. She shook her head and looked away.

    I’m not doing that.

And what’s so bad about what you did, he asked staring at her dead in the eye.

    Because it’s my business.

He shook his head. Say it Mia.

    No.

Then why did you even bother coming back? It was harsh, but it was how he really felt.

She looked at him as her eyes welled up. Because I hated being without you. I resented even being in Nashville. I hated that you weren’t there with me to cheer me on. Something did happen while I was up there.

    Which was what?

    Mia shook her head.

It would hurt him more than it hurt her. It would tell him why she went days without a call or a text. It would explain it all but saying it would kill him. That’s not what she wanted to do. Not for anything in the entire dang planet.

    Mia.

Jaxon, I’m not having that conversation. Leave it alone.

The only thing you’d ever hide from me is that either you were with another man or you…

    I what, Mia asked.

Tell me you didn’t, he asked.

    What?

Tell me that you weren’t pregnant. Tell me you didn’t lose the baby.

Jaxon, leave it alone. Please, she asked as she welled up even more.

He walked over and lifted her gaze to meet his. Were you?

    Jaxon, leave it be. Please.

    Why didn’t you tell me?

She looked at him. Because I didn’t. I couldn’t. Not when we talked about it before and neither of us wanted to think about it. I wanted us to have a life Jaxon, not lose another one.

Mia, you should’ve told me. I could’ve flown up there.

She nodded. I know. It was too early anyway. I needed to get on with life. I didn’t want to drag you down.

He walked over to her, putting his laptop down and wrapped his arms around her.He wasn’t about to make everything worse. She’d gone through a whole level of hell and he wasn’t there. It killed him that he wasn’t. Mia, are you alright?

She looked at him. It killed me hiding that from you. I didn’t mean to Jaxon.

He kissed her. I’m sorry I got mad at you about it.

She shook her head and was about to say something when he pulled her into his arms. Jaxon, Mia said.

I knew something was different. I’m so sorry, he said as her arms slid around him and she was in tears.

I didn’t want that being the reason, but it was. It happened Jaxon. I can’t go and change it.

He kissed her, cradling her face in his hands. Are you alright though, he asked.

Mia nodded. As good as I can be.

Mia looked up at him and he shook his head, snuggling her to him. Is that why you got rid of your place in Savannah?

It was a condo. It’s not somewhere that I want to be. Being at your place was what I’d wanted. I mean, I could do without the hurricane season, but it’s calming. It’s quiet.

He kissed her. Do you want to go, Jaxon asked.

After the weekend. I just came back, she said.

Then we hang out today and try to lower the blood pressure for a while, he asked. Mia nodded and he kissed her again, snuggling her tight to him.

Alright. You write and I’ll try to get something down. We hang out then head back to the beach house, Mia said.

Jaxon nodded. And I’ll get dinner. Whatever you want, he said.

    Jaxon.

He looked at her. What, he asked.

I think we kinda need that only here thing.

Cane’s or seafood, he teased. When he saw that sexy smirk, he knew. Cane’s it is. Alright. We both need to write. You alright, he asked.

    Mia nodded. Jaxon.

    What?

    Love you too.

They got a little writing in, but Jaxon couldn’t stop looking at her. She’d gone through all of it alone. Without him. Brad helping her was all good, but he needed to be there and he was in a completely different state. He shook his head.

Jaxon, it happened. We can’t go back and change it, she said knowing that he was kicking himself.

I know. I just wish that I’d been there with you. That’s all.

She shook her head. Let’s go back and go for a walk. Jaxon nodded and slid his laptop into his bag.

    Are you letting me drive?

She kissed him. Not for a hot minute. We’re going back to the beach house.

You are such a party pooper.

And where did you want to go instead, she teased.

    Give me the keys.

Jaxon. He kissed her, slid the keys from her hand and opened the passenger door for her.

Do not crash my truck on the way back.

He kissed her. Nope. I won’t beautiful. One more kiss and he walked around and hopped in.

    Where are we goin?

You’ll see when we get there, he teased. They headed off and he drove out to the bridge. The one place where they would have peace and quiet and they could be alone.

    Jaxon.

Pitt street, he said. Mia shook her head.

Of course, she replied as they parked and he grabbed his bag then came around the truck to get her door.

Jaxon. He grabbed her hand, locked the truck and they walked. They had all the space in the world, all the privacy they could want. They walked, talked, and walked some more out to the view. The bridge to nowhere, lined in palmettos and palm trees and people fishing off the edge. It was too pretty not to go to.

    Jaxon.

    Yes beautiful.

I wanted to call and tell you. I did. I just couldn’t even say the words. Nobody knew except Brad.

He kissed her. I would’ve been there even if I had to walk the entire way there, he said as he wrapped his arms around her. Mia, you know, the entire time I was up in New York, all I thought about was you. That’s why I could rewrite that manuscript into a script so easily. It was about us. It always has been. Since the day we met, everything’s been about us. She shook her head and he smirked. Think I’m lying? She kissed him and he picked her up in his arms, devouring her lips.

    Jaxon.

What beautiful, he asked as he sat down on the lonely bench.

Are you gonna let me read it, she asked as he kissed down her neck.

When we get back. If that’s what you want, you can read it. They snuggled, hung out alone and got caught up like they’d never been apart. When he heard the rumbling of the thunder, he almost laughed.

We’re running, Mia said. Jaxon nodded and they ran for the truck, hopping in as the water was about to pour down on top of them. He started the truck and she couldn’t hold back the laughter.

    What are you laughing at?

    Nothin, she teased.

    Mia.

Imagine if we’d been at Cypress…

He kissed her. She slid the driver’s seat back and slid onto his lap. Mia, what are you doing?

She kissed him and his hands almost instinctively slid to her backside. Mia.

What? He kissed her, devouring her lips.

    We’re not doing this here.

    Why?

Because we aren’t Mia. He kissed her and her arms wrapped tighter around him.

I think I might have missed you, she teased.

Might have? She nodded and his arms tightened around her waist. Back to the house? She nodded, kissed him again and slid back over to the passenger seat. She slid her seatbelt on as he pulled the seat back up and pulled out of the parking lot.

They headed back towards the house and he went and intentionally stopped at Cane’s.

    Jaxon.

You haven’t had it have you? She smirked.

Kinda saved that for when I came back here.

    Mia.

    What?

    I love you.

Love you too, Mia replied. It sounded like an angel had spoken. Hearing the words had a grin appearing on his face.

    What, Mia asked.

    I missed that.

    Missed what handsome?

I missed hearing the words. I missed you. More than you even know, he said.

    We talked Jaxon.

I know, but it’s not quite the same. I wanted you with me so badly that I literally couldn’t even sleep. She smirked and he pulled in to get chicken. He ordered enough for a few days of leftovers, got the food and they went back to his place. They pulled in and the storm got heavier.

    You ready, Mia asked.

    One thing first, he teased.

    What?

He slid her over the console, slid the driver’s seat back and pulled her into his lap.

    The food’s…

He kissed her, devouring her lips and slid his arms around her, resting his hands on her backside.

Um. He kissed her again and he could feel her almost trembling in his arms.

What, he asked as he kissed down her neck.

    Food’s gonna get cold.

We can warm it up, he replied as he cradled her face in his hands and kissed her again.

I thought we… He kissed her lips, watching them go from pink to red and back to pink again.

    What?

We weren’t going to do this in the truck.

He kissed her again with an almost urgent kiss that had goosebumps popping out all over her skin. That’s kinda up to you, he teased as they came up for air. He kissed her again and she smirked.

    Come inside.

Jaxon nodded. She grabbed her bag and the food, sliding off his lap and running for the porch. He grabbed his laptop bag and the keys and went and ran for the steps, locking the truck behind him and handed the keys to Mia.

Now what, he asked. She kissed him, took his hand and walked him around to the back porch, facing the endless blue of the water. He slid up behind her as she watched the rain bounce off the water.

What, she asked feeling his arm wrap around her.

You coming inside or are we eating out here, he teased as he nuzzled her neck. Babe, are we eating out here?

Mia nodded and leaned up against him. He put the bag down on the chair and leaned onto the porch swing, pulling her into his lap. Hey, he said as she turned to face him.

    Hey yourself handsome.

He kissed her and she slid her legs around him.

    Mia.

    What?

I thought you were worried about the food getting cold.

We can warm it up, she said as she pulled his hoodie off.

    Mia.

    What?

    What are you doin?

Nothing, she said as she slid her shirt off, revealing a bikini that truly should’ve been illegal.

Mia, why are you teasing me?

    "Because
