Danielle’s grandfather died from a mysterious gun incident that no one in the family would talk about. The Sheriff found it odd that her grandmother did not appear the least bit upset during the investigation, nor did she wear black to his funeral. However, the Sheriff could find no evidence that she had anything to do with the mishap, so it was named a suicide.

About a hundred people showed up to the funeral. It was only supposed to be a small, family-only funeral but town folk usually do what they want to do.

Amongst the funeral guest, there was an uninvited woman dressed in black. She had a long black veil covering her face. Alongside her were 2 small boys and she crying uncontrollably. The story is told that my grandmother, Mildred, stopped the preacher in the middle of my grandfather’s eulogy, and told the woman to leave.

Have some class about you woman! Don’t humiliate yourself further by acting this way in public! He is dead and he ain’t coming back, so move on. Go on, git!

The shocked woman did not respond, she just sobbed louder and ran away dragging the two little boys behind her. Witnesses said they could hear her wailing for miles.

The preacher looked at Mildred for permission to begin again, and she nodded yes as she swatted her hand at the preacher.

Later, when my mother asked who the lady and the two boys were, her mother replied, ‘You’ll have to ask your father, only he can explain the things he has done."

My mother thought for a moment, then decided then would be an inappropriate time to remind her mother that her father was dead and probably not taking any questions.
