About the Book
We all know the stories of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. They have been told time and time again, with happy endings for these princesses. Even the original stories had the antagonist win over their evil competition. But what happens if the ending isn't necessarily so happy?
In Scary Tales: Volume 1: Princesses Gone Wild, readers will be introduced to new flips and turns. Open your mind to a different take on classic characters with tantalizing tales, eerie enchantments, and menacing monsters. This anthology is the first of ten stories that tells what happens when there is a horrific twist on some of the world's most beloved fairy tales.

About the Author
J. Wampler loves fairy tales and the characters they explore. He is also extremely interested in horror, which this book serves as an introductory mash-up of the two. He is a combat veteran, serving thirteen years in the Army, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. A Charlotte, North Carolina native, he resides in Pflugerville, Texas outside the metropolitan city of Austin with his wife, daughter, and house full of pets. There once was a wealthy man named Lord Clement who had a perfect life. While he wasn’t a chiseled man, he was fit. Standing at just over 6 feet tall, he was in his mid-thirties with a head full of hair the color of the night and a mustache that paired perfectly. He was married to a lovely woman who bore him a daughter, Cinderella. When Cinderella was about 12 years old her mother became deathly ill. After only a few weeks she succumbed to her illness, leaving Lord Clement to care for Cinderella by himself, with the help of the servants, of course. However, over time the Lord became lonely. After 8 years he longed to be with a woman.

Lady Tremaine, a widow with two daughters of her own, also longed to be with someone else. She was a tall woman with a slender frame. She walked with the gait of a woman used to being in control. She liked power and knew what to do with it. Her daughters, on the other hand, were the exact opposite; a fact that sometimes made Lady Tremaine loath them. Drizella, the oldest, was tall like her mother but was sickly thin and walked with a noticeable limp. Her skin was pale and she had a long, pointed nose that hung off of her hollow face like a dead branch on a tree. Her dark hair stuck to her head appearing to constantly be wet. Anastasia, on the other hand, was short and plump. Her rosy cheeks seemed to swallow her nose and mouth. Instead of a smooth glide, she waddled to get from one place to another. On her head she wore her fiery hair up, mostly because if she didn’t it would stray everywhere. Both of the daughters always walked behind their mother, showing the world who the alpha of the trio truly was. They belonged in her shadow and they knew it.

One day, when Lord Clement was in town admiring the shops, he came across Lady Tremaine. He saw in her a beauty that overtook him immediately. Her face had perfect symmetry and her deep eyes were the color of the ocean. She wore her dark hair in a tight bun. She caught the Lord’s eyes as he stared at her curiously. After a few seconds he approached her, took her hand in his, and kissed the top of it before introducing himself. From that point on, she knew she wanted him, as well as what he had. Before long Lady Tremaine, along with Drizella and Anastasia, were moved into Lord Clement’s chateau, much to the dismay of Cinderella. Cinderella never cared for the Lady. She never really understood why but she got the hint that she was after more than the Lord’s heart. In front of Lord Clement, Lady Tremaine treated Cinderella with respect and kindness but when it was just them she was nothing more than another servant in her own house.

Her stepsisters weren’t any better. They were jealous of Cinderella. She had the height the sisters wanted, not too tall but not too short. She had an hourglass figure, shoulder-length blonde hair that always seemed to sit right. Her eyes were like a clear day shining through a diamond. While Cinderella kept her own room, the stepsisters had to share one. Like all siblings, they fought. Typically, it was the stepsisters balking back and forth between themselves but when they turned their sights on Cinderella it usually got physical. They would push her, pull her hair, and slap at her.

Over time Lord Clement fell ill and before long he eventually succumbed to the illness. Immediately following the funeral services Lady Tremaine cast Cinderella to the attic, having her become another servant in her own home. She was not allowed to leave the attic without permission. She was never allowed to leave the house and she would get locked inside at night. Her duties were to keep the house clean, the stepsisters and stepmother fed, and tend to every need any of the three had. The food she was allowed to eat were table scraps that the stepsisters and Lady Tremaine did not eat or feed to their annoying Persian cat. The only friends Cinderella made were the animals she came in contact with like the mice in the attic or the birds that flew outside her sole window. There was one human that she considered a companion, their butler. However, not too long after the death of Lord Clement he just left. Lady Tremaine told everyone that the butler just could not stand to work for her and took off in the middle of the night without a second look back, leaving Cinderella to fend for herself against their endless tirade.

One day there was an announcement: the prince was to host a ball in search of a suitable bride to rule the kingdom with. Every girl of age was thrilled for the chance to be that bride. The sisters had beautiful gowns made specifically for them. Lady Tremaine made sure they would be at that ball and at least one of them would catch the eye of the handsome prince. If just one of her daughters could marry the prince she wouldn’t have to worry about money or anything else ever again. Drizella would dazzle in a wide but low-cut green dress, outlaid with emeralds. She would have her hair pulled into a tight ponytail with curls formed at the bangs, in an effort to keep the greasy look at bay. Anastasia would be in a high and tight blush gown with rubies outlining the chest and neck. She would wear a tiara on her head, if nothing else but to keep her wild hair down and situated neatly on top of her chunky head. They both would wear the same style slipper, just in appropriate colors to their gowns. Lady Tremaine would also go to accompany her daughters, and to make sure they get to dance with her soon-to-be son-in-law. She would be in a classy violet gown accented in black onyx. She didn’t even bother to ask Cinderella if she was going. As a matter of fact, she can’t remember the last time she saw the retched girl. Out of sight, out of mind.

Finally the night of the ball came. The village girls were all lined outside the castle in swarms, chatting with each other as the nerves and excitement stood over them. As the night went on, the prince grew bored. He had danced with girl after girl and found that he didn’t click with any of them. He knew they all wanted only one thing: to be married to the richest and most famous person in all of the lands. It didn’t hurt that he was also the most handsome man in all the lands. He was muscular but walked with a fine grace about him. He was of average height, had a strong chiseled jawline, and kept his jet black hair close cropped and neatly trimmed.

He was just about to call it a night and kick everyone out when he saw the most beautiful creature out of the corner of his eye. She walked in the room wearing a blue gown with shades alternating between a dark indigo and light cerulean. The gown showed off her figure perfectly and was outlined in sapphire jewels. Her blonde hair wrapped around a beautiful silver tiara with diamonds scattered throughout. Her shoes were a clear crystal that clicked with every step she took. As he sat staring at her, he caught her bright blue eyes in his hazel gaze. He stood up and all but ran over to her. He took her hand in his and gave a slight bow, which she responded to with a curtsey. They danced throughout the rest of the night, which no one else seemed to notice. He didn’t care if they did, to be honest. As
