About this ebook

She's a witch. He's an angel. It can't work... or can it?

When Justinian the angel arrives from Paris to visit a witch in small-town Florida, he hardly knows why he's there.  Sure, they met—once—but is that enough of a reason to drop in and ask her to help him find the meaning of life?

Lizzy's barely scraping by reading fortunes in her tiny tea shop, and after a crush gone disastrously wrong, her heart is as fragile as a porcelain teacup—until an angel shows up on her doorstep, and love begins to brew like fragrant tea leaves…

Justinian angled his flight over tall pine trees and headed for a patch of sand. Wind whooshed through his wings, ruffling the white feathers. A blue lake sparkled, sapphire-like, in the distance. Near it a collection of old wooden buildings lined a handful of sleepy streets like an abandoned playset.

This landscape was not like home. Not like France, with its mild, rolling plains and regal old forests. He had spent too much time hiding in a cave beneath the streets of Paris. This place, this Florida, was alien.

Justinian’s wings beat once, twice, slowing his descent to a sandy clearing studded with palmettos. No one was around to see, but if they were, they would see nothing. Not even the flaming sword strapped to his back. As an angel he was visible only when he wanted to be. It was safe.

    It was also lonely.

Was this such a good idea, to visit someone who wasn’t expecting him? He had met her only once, after all. But his dilemma embarrassed him. To speak to someone who already knew him well would tie his tongue.

Instead, he sought out the witch—Lizzy—who had looked at him like he was something to be admired. A statue in the Louvre. Not a poor excuse for an angel, who had long ago given up on his responsibilities.

Time had faded his rough workman’s clothing, and his flight across the Atlantic made the fabric crisp with salt. What color remained had been kissed with dust from the Florida air. He wondered if he should change. He had made the mistake, once before, of appearing in his angelic robes, his halo, his sandals—and it had gone disastrously.

No. He would keep his plain clothing. A snap of the fingers removed all traces of dust and salt.

He shifted his pack and walked on.

The dry ground made a crunching sound under his boots, and the sun blazed through the pine branches. A road peppered with hand-painted signs marked the end of the forest.

Lyonia Spiritualist Camp, Population 66. Books and Gifts. Certified Mediums and Healers. Walk-ins Welcome.

Justinian hoped his walk-in would be welcome.

Another set of signs pointed the way to a Fairy Trail and a Welcome Center. He turned toward the Welcome Center.

The Welcome Center stood at the intersection of Spiritualist Street and Mediumship Way. An old wooden building, like all the others,
