    INTRODUCTION

    ChatGPT is a revolutionary piece of artificial intelligence (AI) technology that has quickly found useful applications across a wide number of industries. There are just as many ways it can be employed for personal usage, especially when it comes to aiding in the development of health and wellness plans, creating daily routines and schedules, or researching methods of personal improvement. The internet provides an ever-expanding repository for a wealth of information, knowledge, and experiences, which can be incredibly time-consuming for an individual to sift through. With the assistance of AI, such as ChatGPT, you can ask specific questions or prompts, and the technology digs through databases, blogs, articles, journals, and other sources to provide the most accurate answers possible.

    The main problem many users of AI encounter is a lack of experience in directing the technology to achieve the desired results. While something like ChatGPT has an impressive ability to intuit certain parameters without the need to explicitly tell it every detail, it still doesn’t possess a human mind capable of inferring intentions or meaning. Asking questions with generalities will almost always give you the most baseline answers available, usually from sources such as Wikipedia, Britannica, or the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. However, if you ask a question that’s too specific, your results will be limited to only one or two sources, which aren’t necessarily of the utmost reliability. Finding that sweet spot between general and specific prompts is key to getting the best results out of an AI tool.

    A recently-revealed weakness with ChatGPT is the fact that it can only return information provided by other sources, which means it has no way to determine the accuracy of its answers. Although it has algorithms to enhance its ability to learn when something is incorrect, this depends on users to fact-check the original information themselves and alert the program to these inaccuracies. When enough users have corrected false facts or inaccurate data, AI technology can adjust its output accordingly, but anyone relying solely on ChatGPT runs the risk of working off bad information. As with anything, expectations must be tempered against reality, because actual AI is nothing like what you see in the futuristic dystopias perpetuated by Hollywood.

    In early 2023, my son Alex asked me questions about a religion I knew very little about, as he had chosen the topic for a school essay. We struggled through hours of Google searches, finding plenty of results, but nothing that succinctly answered his inquiries before my wife told us to ask ChatGPT. It took some time to figure out how the program worked, but eventually, we were able to collect enough information about the religion that we both understood. We even had ChatGPT offer suggestions for how to structure the essay. In the end, he was able to get an A for his assignment, but more importantly, we both learned a lot about a new subject, widening our perspective on how others view the world.

    The average person is still relatively new to the idea of AI as a tool for everyday life. Until the release of ChatGPT by OpenAI on 30 November 2020, previous iterations and attempts to create a forward-thinking AI program capable of quickly answering questions in a comprehensive manner through basic prompts provided by non-expert users seemed like a pipedream. It cannot be understated the leaps and bounds this type of AI technology has made in progressing the industry toward an automatic, efficient, optimized future. This can seem scary on the surface, but much of the negative discourse surrounding it is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works. Once you delve into the mechanics of what ChatGPT actually can and cannot do, you’ll find that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks, and it might even become a major part of helping you live a better life.

    Keeping up with your health can be expensive and time-consuming if you only use traditional means of medical care. Due to how long it can take to even get seen by a healthcare professional, common injuries or illnesses that aren’t considered emergency situations can plague you for weeks or months before you can receive treatment. However, the knowledge and diagnostic tools for basic health issues are freely available to anyone with an internet connection. Medical journals, case studies, and long-term test results are posted where anyone can access them, but sifting through the massive amounts of data can be a full-time job, and that’s if you know what type of information to seek out. Using AI to assist in these tasks not only greatly reduces how much time it takes to research a health topic, but it can help you collate the results
