    Chapter 1

    Hi, My Name Is Lance

This is the story of Commander Beckie Veronica Laine. Commander Laine is a hardworking gurl with a huge background in the military. It all started when she was twenty years old and had been a troubled young person. She bounced around job to job looking for a place to fit in. One night Laine decided to go to a local bar and drink herself into another world since she had just turned twenty-one. Doesn't everyone go and get drunk when they turn twenty-one? The bar she entered was on the outskirts of the local military base. Convenient for the local enlisted men to come and get toasted and still be able to find their way home. She was sitting at the bar working on her third rum and Coke when one brave soldier decided to give her left ass cheek a squeeze, and that didn't go over well at all for Laine. She came around with a right hook and caught the younger soldier right square in his right eye, dropping him to the floor. The blood ran out of him like mad, but Laine didn't care; he started it in her book. A lieutenant had been in the bar that night. He caught the whole thing with his own two eyes and at that moment saw potential in Laine. He got up and approached Laine with caution; he didn't want blood running from his eye either. As he sat down next to Laine, she looked at the lieutenant and said, I ain't buying what you're selling. Move along please.

The lieutenant didn't budge from his seat. I want to offer you a job, he replied. The army could use a person like you. That's all it took for Laine to realize that maybe this was that moment in her life that could change things for her. She got up and left but not before she caught a glimpse of the name tag on the lieutenant's chest. It read Lieutenant Lang. That very next morning, Laine headed for the recruiters' office carrying all of her belongings in a worn-out blue book bag and twelve dollars and some change in her pocket. The recruiter there at that recruiting office was indeed the Lieutenant Lang that she had met the night before. Laine signed up and was hoping it was a dream come true to find her place in the world.

Over the next seventeen years of her life, Beckie Laine would be molded into the perfect soldier. She was already smart, strong willed, and ready to take on anyone or anything that stood in her way of completing her mission.

    ***

It was another hot day in July for the commander. The date was July 17, 2020. Another day of shaping young men into killing machines. Someone had to do it, and Laine took that job on herself. She didn't trust anyone else to do it. Laine was a perfectionist, the one part of her job she took seriously. Commander Laine had been offered higher ranks but declined every offer. No one knew why, and no one had the balls to question her judgment. Commander Laine had the biggest name in the military, and she knew it but did not abuse what she had earned. It was three o'clock, so she cut the grunts loose and headed toward the cafeteria to find her gurl, Alex. Alex Jones was an army brat. She was raised on the base by her mom and dad. Her mom was a stay-at-home mom, and her dad was a career sergeant. How I met Alex was an even stranger event. Her dad had tossed her out into the street and told her not to come back. Harsh, maybe too harsh. Alex's dad found out she was transgender and blew a gasket, a cork, and pretty much anything else that could be blown or popped. I took Alex in. I may be a hard-core military gurl, but I wasn't going to let her become a hobo digging through dumpsters for her next meal. Alex was beautiful. She had long blond hair damned near all the way down to her ass crack and looks that could kill. My kind of gurl in more ways than one. It was our six-month anniversary of being together, so I headed to the cafeteria to meet up with her. She wasn't there, so I headed to the logistics building, which was fairly close to the cafeteria. I found her behind the building getting her ass reamed by Daddy Dearest. He was such a prick. I hated that he could treat another human being in such a way, but once a prick, always a prick.

As soon as Sergeant Jones saw me approaching, he gave me a quick but firm salute and hurried away. He knew I could beat his ass, not even a question if I could or not. It wasn't in my blood or heart to cause more damage to Alex's already broken heart. I grabbed my gurl in my arms and gave her a hug that showed her that she meant everything to me. I loved her through and through. She didn't question it, nor did I. I asked her what the fight was all about, and Alex replied, Mom finally left the asshole, and I guess I am to blame for it.

No, you're not, I said. He is. Alex and I headed for home. It was a short walk, but it gave Alex a chance to cool off and figure it out for herself. The thing about Alex that I liked the most was the fact that anytime something was bothering her, she would come to me and tell me everything. Alex knew that keeping her feelings bottled up would only cause more harm than good, and I loved her for that. We both stripped once we were inside the front door of our house. It was a race for the shower, but why? We were gonna share that water since we believed in being conservative. I got out of the shower first and put on a blue spandex club dress and put my hair into a ponytail. Alex put on a yellow T-shirt and blue skirt and put her hair into the cutest pigtails that gave me ideas for later that night or dirty thoughts as I saw it. It was creeping up on six o'clock by the time we walked out of the house and walked into the garage to get into my second most prized possession. It was a 2006 Mazda RX-8. I bought it with a bad engine from one of the other guys on the base. He wasn't checking the oil and killed it. Such a shame since it was such a beautiful car. It was dark blue with a pinch of metallic in the paint job. The ten-spoke gold wheels and gold racing wing gave it that extra pinch of perfection. A 20B three-rotor was swapped in and 13B tossed into the scrap pile. Everyone knows rotary engines make the ponies, so I tossed a T-6 turbo on it followed by some three-inch exhaust. It sounded like an airplane when it was running, a really mad airplane at that. Once Alex and I were buckled in, I hit the garage door opener and turned the key.

The sweet hum of seven hundred horses under the hood was enough to bring a smile to any tuner car lover's face; it sure made me smile. Only giggles out of Alex. The clutch got pushed in and the trans put into first gear, I burned rubber all the way to the street, and then up the street. I slowed down just enough to clear the guard gate. From there, I pounded the gears only to realize that my grocery getter was doing a buck twenty, so I backed down on the throttle. Starting the night out with a speeding ticket wasn't on the menu. Alex and I headed for a small town about thirty miles from the base. If there was trouble tonight, at least I would have a few days to make up a good story. Alex and I made it to town in one piece, so the next mission was to find a parking spot. The club we were going to had an ample parking lot, but on a Friday night, it was probably packed. We found a parking spot right in front of the place. How lucky was that? The Perfect 10 nightclub was always packed. It was the only alternative lifestyle club for two hundred miles. It was a well-kept-up club, and the owner was a meticulous person. She too was trans and was probably the most laid-back person I had ever met. Once inside, Alex headed for our regular corner booth at the north side of the place. We liked the lack of good lighting in that spot. Alex ordered our food while I went up to the bar and grabbed some drinks for the two of us. The two of us ate and drank, and an hour later, the rum and Coke was soaking in. I could feel it. Alex was two sheets to the wind by this time and went into giggle mode.

As I was getting up to go to the bathroom, a man in his early thirties approached our table. He waited for about ten seconds, then said, Hello, Commander Laine, it's nice to finally meet you in person.

Who was this person? How did he know my name? I replied, How do you know me exactly?

I am Lance King, he replied. I am with the Lunar 1 Moon Base, and I was sent here to recruit you for a mission that involves saving Earth from destruction.

Shit, I didn't know what to say. He had me straight up puzzled. I looked at Lance and said, Lunar 1 Base, never heard of it.

It was at that moment that Alex spoke up and said, Well, Commander, there is indeed a base on the moon, and it's been there since 2011. At a time in my life, I did remember NASA sending a whole bunch of shuttles into space, but I thought it was to put more satellites into orbit.

So you're telling me that there are a whole bunch of people living on the moon, I replied.

Shit got quiet for about thirty seconds, then Lance spoke up. Yes, Commander, there are approximately seventeen hundred people living on the moon.

Why are you here? I replied.

I'm here because the fate of the human race is in two days, six hours, and forty-four minutes. I'm here to recruit you and take you to the Lunar 1 Base.

The thought popped into my head that this guy was as crazy as a bag full of cats. Lance, I said, come to my house in the morning and explain this predicament better. I'm too drunk to believe you right now. Lance saluted me and walked away, heading for the front door to leave. At this point, I wasn't sure what to believe. Alex obviously knew something about this but never mentioned it during any of our conversations. I decided it was time for me and Alex to hit the coffee shop next door and sober up. I wasn't driving the hot rod grocery getter while I was half toasted; that was the worst idea of all. Alex had passed out, so I had to scooch her out of the booth and pick her up over my shoulder, then carry her ass to the coffee shop where I would totally look like an idiot carrying my gurlfriend over my shoulder like a handbag. This was the kind of shit that would make it back to the base. Alex woke up and sat herself down. Giggle mode was gone, and the shit face appeared. I could only hope that she didn't puke in the coffee shop. Please don't puke was all I could think of at the moment. I was facing the parking lot across the street and noticed Lance turn left and head into it. There was a bright bluish light, and then he was gone. Where did he go, and what kind of shit am I getting myself into if he is telling the truth? Three cups of coffee and no puke from Alex later, it was time to hop in the blue demon and truck it home.

Alex and I made it home without a catch, but the entire drive home had me thinking about what Lance had said and what Alex had added to the story. I left the blue demon outside since the garage was tiny and Alex was passed out for the second time. Door opening room was a necessity to get her out the hard way, which was turning her into a handbag for the second time. I was so glad it was two in the morning; the chances of being seen were way less. Once in the house, I removed some of Alex's clothes and put her in bed. My clothes hit the floor, and under the covers I went to count sheep as fast as I could; I was beat. Seven a.m. rolled around fast, too fast for my liking, but it wasn't like I could stop time and catch a few more hours of much-needed sleep. Just as I closed my eyes, I heard a buzzing noise. Alex, I said. A vibrator this early in the morning.

Alex replied, My vibe is in the drawer where it belongs.

Then I heard Lance say, Good morning, Commander, are you ready to depart for the moon base? I sat up and poked my head out from under the covers. There he was, standing next to a doorway that was in the middle of my bedroom.

First things first, Lance, how the fuck did you get into my bedroom undetected while carrying a doorframe?

Lance had a strange device on his right arm. He pushed a button, and the doorframe disappeared into the floor. Commander, we need to go now, Lance said.

Not without my belongings, my gurl, and my car, I replied.

As you wish, Commander. Alex was running around like mad packing anything that wasn't bolted down to the floor. I told Lance that my car had to come; no way was it staying here to get destroyed. His magic door raised from the floor, he stepped inside of it, and the door disappeared once again.

Hey, Beckie! Alex barked. Lance just rolled your car through that doorway. All I could think of at this time was that I hoped he didn't scratch my car; that blue paint would be hard to come by in two days.

A few moments later, Lance reappeared in my bedroom with his magic door. It was a fascinating device that had me wondering what kind of other toys and tricks were on the moon. Well, Commander, are you ready to see what's on the other side of this door? I think you will be very impressed.

Yes, Lance, I replied. I'm pretty sure Princess and I have all of our shit. Alex even grabbed the grenade launchers I had hocked from the armory from under the bed and had them in our stack of shit. I didn't see the sink in there, but I could tell from the look on Lance's face that he was the least bit happy about it. Alex's theory on this whole deal was that there probably was not a Walmart on the moon. I'm guessing she is right. The three of us stepped through the doorway, and on the other side of this doorway was a huge white room with strange lighting. The ceiling didn't have light bulbs. The whole ceiling just glowed an off white. Alex grabbed a baggage cart that was sitting there and loaded all of our prized possessions onto it.

Hold on, Lance, where is my car? I screamed.

Safe in the atrium, Commander, Lance replied. We're headed there now.

    Chapter 2

    Small-Fry Laine, Big Universe

Lance led the two of us down a long white corridor. It must have been a thousand feet long. We finally reached a corner and turned to the left, and on the left side of this next corridor, it had windows running down the full length of it. It had to be a thousand feet long as well. Lance finally broke his silence and said, Commander, your ship is on the left if you want to take a look. I turned my head to the left. My jaw dropped to the floor. I had to stop and soak this moment in. There it was, just like Lance had said. Even in all of the years I spent in the military, I had never heard a word about any of this shit on the moon. Even with being a commander, I guess my clearance wasn't enough to get in on the good shit like this secret moon base. I walked up to Alex and put my arm around her shoulder. She was in shock; even I was in shock.

Alex turned and looked at me. She said, Is this really real?

Yes, Princess, it sure looks that way, doesn't it? I replied.

Lance gave me that we got shit to do look. I guess that was our hint to keep moving, so we did. The ship was a beauty. It was as long as one and a half football fields and every bit as wide as a football field. My second guess was that it had to
