About this ebook

Poetry and Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPGs) come together in this story of space adventurers looking for a place to call home. These displaced people are called Outers. They struggle with a universe that feels increasingly small despite the many colonies. Each poem touches on a moment from each TTRPG session played by the author with friends. This campaign came about during a time when the world was locked down. Like many humans, they wanted to explore what a new normal could one day be, and how deep the emotional toll was in isolation. This book of poetry explores the found family's struggle with identity and safety. In homage to friends, the poem titles have been preserved from the original title used in the game sessions. Outers Rehome was written in hopes that you could step into the hearts of those that told the story first.

    Outers Rehome - Thomas Secula

    chapter 1, S.L.U.G.

Staring at ships that rocket away.

    Loading crates while others masquerade.

Unclear dreams hint at stolen memory.

Grasping for answers from inscrutable mystery,

like pulling water from the sea.

    mandatory bonding, fun

    Trust in the process,

    make a mess,

    chili at martha’s,

    so delicious,

    ––––––––

cathartic holiday hunting for tess and aluicous,

scavenger hunt ends abrupt on top of surfing metal surface,

    ––––––––

vama talks colleague aluicous off looming ledge,

forming bonds slumped around old shadow,

warming words and metallic clasp pinching mouth’s edge,

biting hope for escape to space without baggage in tow.

    the escort mission, ugh

How long a member of erased society,

aluicous born from birds and denied his own story,

    forced inside another’s humanity,

wings would one day be a sight to see,

    ––––––––

vama betrays himself a witty blow,

    fortunate then to be ignored,

floating through long crystalized weeping willows,

ancient neon sign still a mesmerizing glow,

    ––––––––

    how long has it been,

that retired spokes could catch unbottled
