Prologue

My grandmother, Maria Rosaria Solla and my aunt, Catherine Guerrera, were powerful, yet playful women. With their strength and wit, they became my superheroes.  The stories they told about their hard yet joyful life in Pontelandolfo helped grow my wanderlust. The little Southern Italian hill town that they so bravely left, all those years ago, called me to return.  Now, I live there for half of each year.

As I explore the cobblestone streets and get lost on the mountain, I feel a sense of connection and continuity. The spirit of my grandmother and aunt is always with me. Their legacy of courage and determination lives on in me. I am proud to call this magical village, Pontelandolfo (BN), my home and am delighted to share it with you.

Pontelandolfo has a strong artistic mojo.  Our folkloric dance company, Ri Ualanegli Pontelandolfo tours the world. Weavers, painters, photographers, authors, and musicians share our historic traditions of culture and folklore.  Go on the quest for the crests and see what stories begin to whirl around in your head.  Open the doors to your creativity and let Pontelandolfo be your muse.

Mia nonna, Maria Rosaria Solla, e mia zia Caterina Guerrera sono sempre state donne forti e divertenti. Con la loro forza e il loro spirito sono diventate le mie supereroine. Le loro storie sulla vita dura ma gioiosa a Pontelandolfo hanno accresciuto il mio spirito vagabondo. Nel corso degli anni ho sentito il richiamo di questo piccolo paese arroccato sulle colline del Sud Italia, lasciato da loro tanti anni fa, con tanto coraggio. Attualmente, vivo qui per metà dell’anno.

Mentre esploravo le stradine piene di ciottoli e mi perdevo tra le montagne, avvertivo un senso di connessione e continuità. Gli spiriti di mia nonna e mia zia sono sempre con me. Mi hanno lasciato in eredità il loro coraggio e la loro determinazione. Sono orgogliosa di poter chiamare casa questo magico paese Pontelandolfo (BN) e sono lieta di condividerlo con te.
