About this ebook

Angels and demons are real, and they are fighting for your soul as you read this.

An angel named Artemas awakens in heaven to find Mishael, a principality angel, standing by. He quickly begins to explain where she is and what she must begin to do. Heaven captivates the attention of Artemas, often causing her mind to wander off during training. Mishael immediately understands that keeping this trainee focused isn't going to be easy.

Artemas is tasked with assisting humans to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. She is delighted at the opportunity. However, once she leaves heaven's atmosphere, she is exposed to the army of darkness. Fierce battles between angels and demons rage constantly around her while she accompanies Mishael for some serious on-the-job training.

Mishael and Artemas witness a woman named Ethel Poirier being saved. This serves as an example of the final step in every assignment Artemas is given. Artemas is then taken to her first assignment, Dustin Stillwell. After many bad experiences in his life, Dustin is addicted to pain medication, selling drugs, and has turned away from God completely.

In learning that Dustin has three days left to live, Artemas frantically begins to battle for his soul against the demons trying to take it for themselves. She finds out just how difficult it can be to steer the human heart back to God after so much time is spent away from Him. Using her heavenly powers and the mentorship of Mishael, Artemas gets to work. At times, Artemas feels overwhelmed by the complexities of her assignment--raging heavenly battles, constant demon attacks, the obliviousness of humans, and of learning all about herself.

Will she be able to save Dustin's poor soul? Or will he be lost to the darkness?

    Chapter 1

    First Shift

Heavenly Military Base—Arch Angel Barracks—Smite Team One

Three arch angels stand as a team in their barrack room preparing for duty. The room resembles an earthly military style barrack, neat and clean with just enough space for three beds. Next to each bed is an open-faced locker for storing personal effects and clothing. The arch angels are bowed and praying at the foot of their beds. All three are in their thirties, seven feet tall and have two large wings on their backs. Their hair and eyes are completely made of fire .

On one end of the room stands Jimmu (Divine Warrior) a Japanese samurai wearing ancient samurai regalia with golden armor. Although Jimmu's clothing and equipment resemble ancient earthly attire, it is all made of the finest material in heaven. His clothing material is dark maroon in color, the armor and accessories are made of solid gold. In heaven, clothing and armor will never collect dirt, fade in color, or be damaged in any way, shape, or form.

Jimmu prays gracefully in the Japanese language but with an Old English dialect; God and Father, Thy servant praiseth Thee forever and ever. Honor and Glory be to Thee…

On the other end of the team's room is Kirabo (One who is the gift of God) an African Zulu warrior. He, like Jimmu, wears dark maroon clothing with golden armor and accessories. Kirabo prays fervently from the heart in an African accent but also with an Old English dialect; …we are unworthy of your favor. Please shine Thy grace down upon Thou servant…

In the middle bunk, the leader of Smite Team One, a Native American named Wild Fire. He wears ancient Native American warrior regalia, but with the same material and coloring of his teammates. Wild Fire prays more assertively; …Thou hast maketh my hands for battle. Thine enemies will be smitten and conquered at Thy command. They shall reap the reward of the wicked.

The Team finishes their prayers and all walk towards the center of the room to meet for a routine internal pep rally. Jimmu and Kirabo maintain posture towards the fact that they will most certainly engage in fierce battle momentarily. Wild Fire is childishly giddy in contrast to his serious and heartfelt prayer to God just moments ago.

Wild Fire raises his hand up and above his teammate's heads. Jimmu and Kirabo follow suit and as their hands raise, weapons made completely of fire appear. Jimmu holds two samurai swords made of hellfire, Kirabo holds a spear and shield made of hellfire, and Wild Fire, two hellfire tomahawks. The team touch weapons for a traditional toast of battle as Wild Fire yells out, Kingdom Everlasting! Jimmu and Kirabo respectfully repeat and then all three exit the room.

    Heavenly Executive District—Dominion Briefing Room

Principality angels all sit in a fancy and immaculate executive meeting room prior to their shift. A light constant hum of talk and laughter fills the room. The floors of the room are made of the finest heavenly marble and pearl. Diamonds and gems of all kinds provide trim and accents to the room and building. Stained glass designs and solid crystal windows from floor to ceiling line the walls and allow the glow of heaven to light up the room. The windows provide a breathtaking view overlooking the heavenly paradise. No furniture is seen in the room as each principality sits at a desk and chair made of small clouds. On the desks sit a holographic screen and keyboard that seem to be an extension of the principality's spirit.

Each Principality wears elegant business attire matching their specific personalities and abilities. The principalities vary in height and ethnicity with none of them having wings. At one end seat of the back row sits Mishael (Who is like God?) a slender principality angel that looks to be in his mid-twenties. He has brown skin and brown eyes with brown curly hair that almost seems to engulf his entire head. He wears an earthly grey suit resembling men's business clothing. Around his neck is a simple black leather necklace with a wooden cross.

Mishael's demeanor is normally content, almost aloof. And although he seems in a hurry to get to work, he does not display anxiousness or stress. Today he sits quietly and to himself, seemingly unamused to the morning chit chat of his coworkers.

A female Dominion angel, Noph (Presentability), stands in front of the principalities to end the routine pre-shift meeting. She wears an earthly women's business suit and dress shoes made of emeralds. An elegant sash hangs across her chest from her right shoulder to the left hip signifying her rank over the principalities. Noph calls out assignments to end the briefing, …Nibshan, you have earth region fifteen, Pithom, you have earth region four. Mishael…, you're assigned the recycled guardian, Artemas.

The constant hum of the room suddenly goes silent. Mishael himself, nervously perks up and his eyes widen in a brief moment of surprise at hearing her name. His heart rate picks up and his breathing halts, but he remains still and silent hoping the briefing will end soon. Half of the principalities look back at Mishael in a moment of compulsive curiosity. The rest of the room fights the urge to turn by using their peripherals for a glance of any possible reaction. Noph, herself, pauses in a brief moment of curiosity before closing out the meeting. Those are your assignments. God speed.

As the principalities ready to leave, they fold the holographic screen and keyboards into their hands. Once they leave their desks and chairs, the small clouds dissipate into the air. Mishael takes his time standing in hopes to be last to leave the room. Pithom (Mouth of integrity), mid-twenties, has light skin with blonde hair and blue eyes approaches Mishael. In a consoling tone Pithom offers, Hey…, she's gonna be alright. Who better than you to protect and to prepare her? Mishael reluctantly nods his head and responds, Yea, I wonder why I was selected to mentor her. Especially after what happened.

A memory suddenly flashes in Mishael's mind; a highly ranked guardian, Artemas, mid-twenties with a light skin complexion lies on a battleground lifeless and with empty eyes. She wears lavender colored clothing underneath golden amor and an array of heavenly decorations. Mishael stands over her with apparent battle damage to his armor and seems distraught at her appearance.

Pithom cuts in and inadvertently snaps Mishael back to present, C'mon, our shift is beginning. The two exit the meeting room.

Heavenly Military Base—Angelic Warfare Meeting Room

Wild Fire and his team sit amongst other arch angels to receive their shift assignments. The arch angels resemble earthly warriors from all time periods of earth's history, roman gladiators, mythological creatures, etc. One half of the meeting room is highly technological with holographic war maps displayed over the walls. The other half of the room is seating reserved for the arch angel teams.

Kemyuel (Avenge ye God) a power angel in his forties stands fifteen feet tall, has four wings on his back, and resembling a white American buffalo, commands the floor. Alright listen up. We have a lot of rookies and recycles out there on shift. Smite carefully, and remember, Father loves His children even those that are lost and dark. Kemyuel raises his right arm at a ninety-degree angle in front of him and balls up his fist. For His glory! He yells.

The arch angel teams all stand and cheer in motivation for battle. They all raise their hands, as Smite Team One did in the barracks, and activate hellfire weapons. As they let out an intense war cry, the ceiling of the room opens up in a spiraling motion like the aperture mechanism of
