    6 Erotic Stories

    Office Sex

ISOBEL’S CONFERENCE call went overtime, as usual.  While the Copenhagen team droned on, she dreamed up new and unusual sex positions, doodling them on the back of scrap paper.  If she were to perch on the side of her desk, could she fit a man between her legs and still rest both feet against the wall?

Only if she kept her heels on, she guessed.

The door to Isobel’s office was closed, but the blinds on her little window were open.  Through those blinds, she spotted a flurry activity in the hallway.  Everybody seemed to be walking, running by.

Must be cake in the boardroom, she thought.

Nothing mobilized the troops like sweets.

And then she noticed a distinct odour on the air.

    Burnt popcorn?

    Burnt something...

Ahmed threw open her door, and she bolted upright, shoving her dirty drawings in the bin under her desk.  He looked to the phone first, and then to her.  Sorry to intrude, but Sassafraz is burning!

Sassafraz is burning?  Her spine straightened vertebra by vertebra.  A cold tingle ran up it.

The monotone voices on the line didn’t even pause for breath.

Ahmed clung to the doorknob.  You can see it from the boardroom.  Everybody’s in there.

I have go, Isobel told the phone.  There’s a fire.  I’m hanging up now.

Usually she’d have waited for a response, but not today.  She ended the call and raced from her office, catching the icy clean scent of Ahmed’s cologne as she passed him by.

He closed the door with one hand and placed the other on her lower back, propelling her down the hall.

His touch sparked something, a fire in her belly.  She half-turned to look at him, but second-guessed herself and concentrated on putting one foot in front of the other.  She always did stupid things when she was aroused, and she often fell off her heels even when she wasn’t.

That campfire aroma she’d caught a whiff of in her office increased tenfold when they stepped into the boardroom.  Ahmed was right—everyone was there.  Her boss, his boss, the owners, the assistants, her colleagues, their clients, even the cleaning staff were pressed like a heaving mass against the wall-to-wall window.

It was funny to see all these professional people smushed together, foreheads and noses flattened against the glass.  Those farther back looked over the heads and shoulders of the front row.

Three of the younger assistants climbed on the boardroom table to get a better view, but the owners snapped at them to get down.  During the ruckus, Isobel and Ahmed snuck around the side, standing just behind Jin the receptionist.

People often say, I can’t believe my eyes, but Isobel really couldn’t.  She couldn’t believe Sassafraz was burning.  She felt numb, like she was in a dream, as she watched the orange flames soaring through a hole in the restaurant’s roof.

They had an excellent view from their office tower—a helicopter view.  Isobel could see burnt timbers breaking off from the black roof to feed the flames.  They were huge.  She’d never seen a fire so big.

Have ever been there? Ahmed asked without looking at her.  He seemed as hypnotized by the flames as everyone else.

No, she said.  I always figured it was too showy and expensive.

Sassafraz was a landmark restaurant, the place where celebrities dined when they were in town making movies or attending the film festival.

Now I never will, I guess.

They’ll rebuild it, one of Connie’s clients said.  "It’s the place to see and be seen.  They’ll have to rebuild it."

Still, Isobel felt queasy as she watched Sassafraz burning.  She felt like she’d missed something essential, and now it was too late.  It was mortality, this sensation, like death had her in his frosty grip. There were so many things she’d never experienced.

I’m sending pictures to all the news places, Jin said, playing with her phone.  They pay you a hundred dollars if they use your shot.

Are there any celebrities down there? one of the young assistants asked.  Gossip magazines pay a thousand.

Everybody leaned forward, phones in hand, trying to get snaps of faces in the crowd outside the restaurant.

    Is that Brad Pitt?

    Where?  Where? Where?

Are you kidding?  That’s a cook.

    How do you know?

He’s wearing that white top thingy like Gordon Ramsay.

    Gordon Ramsay’s down there?

    No!

Isobel tuned them all out.  Her focus was split between the flames, which were just starting to lick the adjacent building, and the heat coming off Ahmed’s body.  Her bare arm was touching his suit, and she could feel his warmth through the fabric.  Her skin was getting goosebumpy even though she wasn’t cold.

Something was about to happen.  She could feel it in her bones.

Finally, sirens!  What had taken the fire department so long?

They watched eagerly, but the first truck came one street over.  Another truck arrived hot on its heels, and then a third and fourth, surrounding the building on three sides.  They hooked up their hoses and pointed those huge things at the building.

Isobel expected an immediate abatement, but that wasn’t at all what happened.  So much water, and it seemed to have no effect.  The flames burned bright, maybe a darker shade of orange, but still high, still licking the next building over.  One of the
