About this ebook

Even There is a book of short stories inspired by the love of God. It is meant to bring the reader glimpses of courage and faith as it relates to instances of God's amazing care in the everyday moments of our lives. It is hoped that we all look for defining happenings like this in our own lives. It is said that if we don't look for something, we will never find it, or as Jesus told us, "Seek and ye shall find."

    Dedication

    To the glory of God, as he moves through our lives like a gentle breeze rippling across still water. His many blessings and mercies find us in the everyday moments of our lives.

    My love always to my darling Jerry,

    To the sister of my heart, Aramesa Freda

    To the friends God has scattered like stars along the pathway of my life

    Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

    If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there.

    If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

    Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

    —Psalm 139

    Introduction

    This collection of stories is written for the glory of God. They are about the wonderful mercies and blessings our Father has bestowed upon his children. A wonderful pastor I know named Bill urges us on a fairly regular basis to find our talents and use them to touch the lives of others. Not long ago, when I reached the grand age of seventy-two, it occurred to me that the end of my life will soon find me.

    Looking back, I fear I have been like that servant in Matthew 25:24–30 who was given one talent. His master told the servant he was going away and that when he returned, he would ask him to give an accounting of what he had done with that talent. The servant was afraid of his master and so buried the talent in the ground lest it be lost or stolen. When his master finally returned and found the servant had done nothing with what was given him, he took the servant and cast him into outer darkness.

    I have been given this life and all the experiences in it for a reason. God has blessed me with a love of writing, and although I've written many things, I have never written anything just for him. He has covered me with his wings, he has nudged me, he has held me accountable for the bad choices I've made, and he has led me uphill and downdale until he had me just where he wanted me to be all along. Now it's up to me to sift through the events of my life, keeping the wheat and telling how God has worked his will in me and in others I've known.

    The Life Buoy

    Have you ever been totally afraid of something you couldn't see, like a child knowing there is a monster under the bed? For some of us, this feeling remains well into adulthood. Many years ago, April worked as a secretary in a government office that supervised men and women paroled from prison. This meant they still had part of their
