    Name and History

    Guzheng is a traditional Chinese plucked string instrument. Its Chinese name is composed of two characters and , where (gu) stands for ancient, and (zheng) stands for a plucked string instrument like a zither. From its name alone, we can easily tell that it is an instrument with a rich history. The 秦 筝 (Qin Zheng) was another name for Guzheng, and this instrument has also been called Zheng nowadays.
