Name and History
Guzheng is a traditional Chinese plucked string instrument. Its Chinese name is composed of two characters 古
and 筝
, where 古
(gu) stands for ancient, and 筝
(zheng) stands for a plucked string instrument like a zither. From its name alone, we can easily tell that it is an instrument with a rich history. The 秦 筝
(Qin Zheng) was another name for Guzheng, and this instrument has also been called Zheng nowadays.
