ONE
China Doll

P Puff Daddy’s throwback CD was playing as Kandy and her little sister Courtney sang along while wrapping their hair for the night.
"Now who’s, hot who’s not? Tell me who’s hot, who sell out the stores…." Mase chanted through the speakers.
Girl, that’s my song,
Kandy yelled over the track.
Kandy was a vibrant, mature, and responsible 17-year-old. Her sister, Courtney, was 5 years younger than her, but they got along quite well. They talked about boys, future love interests, baking, fashion, and music. Kandy always thought that Courtney had been here before,
due to her level of intelligence and the fact that she was always able to adapt to her surroundings at the drop of a dime.
Kandy was forced to grow up fast due to her mother’s busy work schedule, so she didn’t have much of a childhood. Her mother, China Doll, was thirty-five, 5’6, 180 pounds, all woman. On any given day, she could dress down and still put half the women her age to shame. Kandy was her spitting image. She never had problems attracting the opposite sex.
Kandy!
China yelled from downstairs.
Yes, ma?
she replied.
I’m getting ready to leave. Remember what I told you, right?
Kandy rolled her eyes at the ritual of her mother’s house rules.
Lil-girl! I know you hear me,
China yelled.
Yes, ma. Don’t answer the phone and if anyone asks if you’re at home to tell them that you’re asleep. No boy’s allowed in the house and don’t go to bed with the lights or television on.
Kandy recited while rolling her eyes.
Good!
China said as she gathered her bags for work. Lord willing, I’ll see you two when the sun rises.
She always said before leaving out.
Courtney turned the radio up blasting, More Money, More Problems
while having their nightly pillow fight.
Ouch! Kandy. That hurts,
Courtney yelled.
I know,
Kandy replied laughing.
China was the only girl out of five boys. She grew up in the Uptown section of the city of Norfolk, VA, but moved to Berkeley when she turned twelve. After three of her brothers were killed in a drive-by, her mother decided to move the family to the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake with the hopes of raising them in a healthier environment.
Unfortunately, just a year later, her two younger brothers were charged in a spree of armed robberies in the seven cities and were sentenced to 40 years each. This left China all alone and caused her mother to become more overprotective than she had ever been. China couldn’t take the constant pressure she was getting from being the only child remaining, so at the age of 15, she packed her book bag and took off in the middle of the night determined never to return. She would eventually meet a well-dressed, Mercedes Benz-driving, 20-year-old pimp who went by the name Slim.
Slim was tall standing at 6’4 in height. He was smooth and laid back and his energy was always positive. He smiled a lot and stayed well-groomed and always smelled like expensive cologne. He would constantly remind China of how beautiful she was, with her long natural shoulder-length hair, light brown almond-shaped eyes, tiny feet, gorgeous smile, and voluptuous body. Anyone could see that Slim was attracted to China. The problem was, he loved pimpin’ more than he loved her.
After getting to know China, they agreed to have a professional relationship. Slim promised to protect and take good care of her and, as time went on, Slim made due on his promises, especially when he purchased her a beautiful ranch-style, three-bedroom home in Virginia Beach. He deposited 20 grand in her bank account and purchased her a new Mercedes Benz of her choice.
China had no reason not to believe in Slim. A blind man could see that he was about his business. Slim was the new-era pimp. He never wore suits with gators or walked around with them silly ass pimp cups. That wasn’t his style. He was more of a dress casual, polo button-ups, polo vest, Rolex watch bracelet, and pinky ring type of guy. His kindness and charm eventually won China over.
After a beautiful Fourth of July summer night on the Virginia Beach oceanfront, they headed back to their presidential suit where the two engaged in hot consensual sex. China had nothing but trust in Slim and from that day forward she decided that he would be her pimp.
Slim held a certain type of clientele. He had Johns
who were CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, law firms, athletes, and movie stars. China made thousands of dollars a week and even more on the weekends when she would fly out to Vegas, Atlantic City, or Miami.
Slim showed China how to make money on another level, by selling sex appeal. Sixty-five percent of the time, she wouldn’t even have to sleep with her client. If she did, it would always start at the base rate of a thousand dollars an hour.
China learned the game quickly and saved every dollar she could. After two years of being loyal to Slim, she was finally ready to embark on her own journey of growth and independence.
Slim, without a doubt, respected her choice because he also recognized her growth. So, he gracefully allowed China to spread her wings and five months later, China’s Dolls Inc., her own escort business, was successfully launched. Her only regret was not telling her daughters what she really did for a
