About this ebook
Insurrect: A Short Story
Life in a space habitat has one fundamental difference from life on a planet. Each and every one of the habitat's inhabitants has the power to disrupt the lives of the others.
The simplest failure to obey the rules can lead to major ramifications and misunderstandings.
But an ideological effort to change the rules without regard to the reality of life in a habitat can have even worse consequences.

CHAPTER 1
The wormhole drive proved one thing that had been suspected for years, gossip travels faster than the speed of light.
Unlike the first years of the Star Way, the habitats had grown to be more than station-minders for that laser-beamed light-sail highway between Earth and Alpha Centauri. Though maintaining the beam relay station was still an important reason for a habitat's existence it was no longer the only reason. The space habitats stretching from the Solar System to the Centauri System were now another important abode for humanity.
But the wormhole drive was changing the relationship between the habitats and humanity's other worlds. Trips that once took months or years of time to complete could now be over almost instantly as the wormhole drive used the wormhole dimension to shorten the distance between two points. The nature and character of the habitats along the Star Way was changing fast as a result of this instant connectivity. And not always for the better.
While waiting to board the hypersonic each of the kids had sent a message to their parents with an outline of what had happened to them on Earth. They told them about Jimmy's disappearance and how the other three, Willis, John and Jett found him. He had been kidnapped by men that had a gravity machine, a device that could create strong lines of negative gravity. It used the same physics as the wormhole drive, creating negative energy but concentrating it into long lines of force. The resulting repulsive gravity could lift objects into the air including people.
Just a mention of a habitat resident being involved in the gravity machine incident was more than enough to cause apprehension as the tidbit passed among the habitat's some two hundred thousand residents.
Before the kids had even left Earth orbit whispers of a plot against the habitat were circulating. By the time their wormhole jump was finished and they had docked the official habitat government
