ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Farid Abou-Rahme was born in the ‘Holy Land’. He received his first two degrees in Civil Engineering from the American University of Beirut-Lebanon. After a period of work in the Middle East, he moved to the UK where he obtained a PhD degree from Sheffield University. He has worked in the UK as Engineering Consultant and University Lecturer.

Searching for answers, the author spent years researching the subjects of Science and the Bible, Creation or Evolution. This research confirmed the authority of the word of God in every field it touches upon. He is keen to share this to strengthen faith in the Bible, and to present the Creator who became the Saviour of the world at the cross of Calvary.

Dr Abou-Rahme gives lectures and preaches on the subject, showing how science confirms the accuracy and the authority of the Bible. His booklet Creation or Evolution; Does Science Have the Answer?  has been translated into several languages.

PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION

The Bible from beginning to end consistently states that the universe and everything in it were created by God, a God of infinite power and wisdom. Without Him was not anything made that was made (John 1:3). Yet throughout history, alternative views about origins have been propounded. Some of these, from ancient times, are classed as mythological, and people smile at them because they are so grotesque.

Others, of more recent origin, have been classed as scientific, and many people take them seriously because they feel they are respectable and academic and rational. But are they? And what is the real reason why people wish for an alternative to creation?

This book explains clearly how the most popular of these theories, evolution, is neither logical nor rational nor scientific. Evolution does not follow good common sense, and it is not good science either! It has not been tested and proved experimentally as all proper science must be. It is a complex hypothesis which has been put together by extrapolation of some data away beyond the boundaries of their applicability, and by much wishful thinking and confusing jargon. It is a proposed theory, not an established fact. It has been modified and revised many times (e.g., Darwinism and Neo-Darwinism), but the trouble with the theory of evolution is that it has been accepted and retained in spite of contrary evidence, and lack of proof or rigorous test. It has been widely acclaimed and eagerly subscribed to because, as many students have said to me, The alternative (God) is unacceptable and impossible! It has been propagated as fact whereas it is fiction.

It is not that science has disproved the existence of God - it cannot and could not do this - but rather that so many scientists (and non-scientists too!) do not want to acknowledge the existence of God to whom by definition they would be accountable. Evolution theory has become the great excuse and has supported a progeny of other theories like relativism, humanism, materialism and, of course, atheism. The practical results of these are evident in today’s societies all over the world. It is tragic to observe what happens when people did not like to retain God in their knowledge (Rom 1:28).

For a long time, many Christians felt that the threat of evolution theory was one they could not answer or cope with. Attitudes varied from refusal to consider it or face it, to compromise by adjusting the meanings of Bible words, or even abandoning some passages of Scripture. (How could they decide which?) One result of increasing access to higher education for the past two generations is that there now exists a substantial number of Christians who are able and willing to face head-on the challenge of these atheistic theories. Many have studied both pure and applied science in detail and in depth, are acquainted with its methodology, its ideas, and its limitations, and can write and speak authoritatively on matters where traditionally a clash and a contradiction have been perceived between science and the Bible. The author of this book is one of these scientists and shows that in fact Science confirms the authority of the Bible. Young people who have doubts about this will find many of their questions answered here.

On all continents today are to be found many scientists who are Christians. Their testimony is that real science does not undermine belief in the Bible in its entirety, submission to God and His authority, and faith in Christ and His dependability. The traditional view of the arrogant scientist pouring scorn on the Bible has not been abandoned in the world, for some scientists wish to retain that stance. But that view is without logic and has less and less credibility as more and more young people especially, with an open and unbiased mind, are discovering the remarkable agreements between the facts of science and the revelation of God in the Bible.

Having taught university degree courses in chemistry for over 30 years, having researched and published extensively in scientific journals, and having had the opportunity of lecturing to many classes of students on the compatibility of science and the Christian faith, I am very pleased to commend this book to a wide readership, young and old. Material like this will educate and enlighten enquiring minds, answer and rebut unfair and unfounded criticisms, and challenge and convict souls who are searching for the truth, searching for meaning, searching for God. He has revealed Himself in Christ, and to know Him is to know what is supremely worth knowing. Evolution leaves people groping in the darkness, without purpose, without direction, without hope. To find Christ and to know Him is to find the answer to life’s most important question and quest: it is to have eternal life (John 17:3).

PREFACE TO THE UPDATED EDITION

The Bible opens with the majestic statement, In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1). The implications of this statement are so profound that some controversy over the meaning and veracity seems inevitable. Nevertheless, we must not shy away from exploring the truth simply because it seems to be surrounded by such controversies.

As a well-trained and highly qualified engineer, in 1997 Dr Farid Abou-Rahme wrote the first edition of the book And God Said showing that the Creation account in Genesis is both accurate and scientific. His book is full of scientific facts and short but helpful summaries of the great scientists of the past who have believed in the historical narrative of Genesis. In that book Dr Farid Abou-Rahme has chapters discussing the so-called Big Bang view of Astronomy, the laws of thermodynamics, the age of the earth, the fossils, the claims for ape-men fossils and the claim that genetic mutations can transform living creatures eventually into man himself.

The field of scientific discovery is dynamic, and in this latest edition, Dr Farid Abou-Rahme includes details of some important new findings. Notably, there are chapters on the evidence from DNA, on soft tissue in unfossilised dinosaur bones, and on the remarkable finding of fast decaying Carbon 14 in dinosaur bones.

This latter chapter presents a very crucial finding, suggesting that those bones could not have been deposited millions of years ago, since all the Carbon 14 would then have decayed away without trace. The fact that Carbon 14 is also still found in coal seams and fossilised wood and even in diamonds, is strong evidence that there was a recent catastrophic burial of vegetation and animals in a short period of time and that the long age view of the age of the earth is incorrect. Similarly, the question of how soft tissue, collagens and red blood cells could remain intact in unfossilised dinosaur bones, can only really be answered by a young earth model. Dr Abou-Rahme has also updated the section about the Flood and Noah’s Ark. Though not all would agree with the vapour canopy theory as the source for the waters above in the Flood, nevertheless Dr Abou-Rahme makes a credible case for this position.

The new chapter on DNA and Irreducible Complexity shows the remarkable biochemical machinery in the cell which has now been found in recent decades. There is a good description of DNA itself, including the remarkable finding that there are dual function coding sites where the same set of DNA letters codes for two different proteins at the same time. That chapter goes on to describe the ATP Synthase motor which is essential for giving the energy needed in the cell, and then discusses mitochondrial DNA mutation rates that are being discovered to be much faster than evolutionary theories had predicted. This leads again to a confirmation of Biblical timescales.

Having taught evidence for Creation to many churches in the UK and abroad, we have found that the greatest battle is within the evangelical church itself, where many pastors and leaders have given way to the evolutionary viewpoint so strongly promoted in theological seminaries. We are therefore most concerned that churches have accessible material which is faithful to Scripture and has sufficient scientific facts to introduce the main arguments such that a lay person can follow and understand. This updated 2021 edition of And God Said is just such a book.

AUTHOR’S THOUGHTS

It has been over 20 years since the publication of the first edition and I thank the Lord for the publication of this book in 15 languages and over 250,000 copies printed and sold or given out free where needed. The Lord has used this project for encouraging the Christians to trust the Bible as the perfect word of God and to challenge the non-Christians and bring many to accept the Creator as their personal Saviour as the barriers of evolution come tumbling down.

I have been and still am encouraged and thankful for the many messages I receive from those who have read the book and were encouraged or saved. It is a humbling experience for which I thank the Lord Jesus: my Creator, my Saviour and my Lord. Some examples:

- A lady, attending one of the talks, purchased the book ‘And God Said...’. The next time I saw her she said she started reading the book in the evening, couldn’t put it down and very late that night she accepted the Lord Jesus as her Saviour.

- One morning a letter came by post with a card inside and no sender name or address. It said: And God Said ... Dr Farid Abou-Rahme... Psalm 94:19 Thank you - I rushed to find Psalm 94:19. It said: ‘In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.’

This person like many Christians has struggled with the issue of Creation or Evolution, not satisfied with the compromise theories being promoted by many. The usual question I get after finishing speaking on this subject at schools, colleges, church halls, town halls or even at Science Societies is: ‘Why hasn’t anyone told us this before?’

- I am reminded of the time after concluding the talk on Creation vs Evolution, a young family with 2 teenage children rushed to speak to me. The son with a beaming face said: ‘We came in believing 95% of the Bible. However, having heard the evidence we now believe 100% and what a difference 5% can make ... Thank you.’

The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports Creation and rejects evolution. It is an ammunition God is giving us to: ‘be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you. ‘ (1 Pet 3:15)
