Loving The Learner - Anton Anthony
Introduction
Every day, we are presented with a choice: to accept the world as it is, or to dare to change it for the better. This book stands as a testament to choosing the latter. Welcome to Loving the Learner: A Tech-Forward Blueprint for Empowering Low-Income Students,
the second installment in the Loving Education series.
My name is Dr. Anton Anthony. I stand before you not only as the author of this book but also as a veteran principal of a Title 1 school in Georgia, an institution classified as low-performing. Yet within these halls and classrooms, in the hearts of the students I serve, I see nothing but potential. Unbounded, unyielding potential, just waiting to be unlocked. This book is about tapping into that potential, shattering the status quo, and enacting real, systemic change in how we educate our children.
As an African American principal, I walk the path blazed by pioneers who believed in the transformational power of education. The belief is that despite one's circumstances of birth, education remains the catalyst for change, the ladder to social mobility, and the key that can unlock the doors of opportunity. My first book, Loving Education: Restoring the Heart of Education,
delved into the significance of heart-centered pedagogy. Now, we will further our journey into marrying this loving approach to education with the burgeoning world of technology.
This book is a call to action—for students, teachers, parents, community members, and board members. We are all part of the educational ecosystem, all agents of change. And so, this book is for everyone invested in the success of our children, in the belief that every child deserves an education that meets them where they are and takes them where they want to go.
Loving the Learner: A Tech-Forward Blueprint for Empowering Low-Income Students
seeks to navigate the intersection of love, learning, and technology. It aims to lay the groundwork for creating a technologically advanced learning environment that includes the principles of empathy, compassion, and understanding. This book is about building bridges, not barriers—bridges between people and technology and between what education is now and what it could be.
By the time you reach this book's final pages, I hope you will be inspired, invigorated, and ready to participate in transforming our educational system. I invite you to join me on this journey towards a future where love and technology work hand-in-hand to uplift every learner, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, empowering them to reach for the stars.
Let's begin.

Section 1: Who I Am - A Personal Narrative and Background as a Principal
I'm Dr. Anton Anthony, a proud Burke County High School graduate in Waynesboro, Georgia. My educational journey began at Fort Valley State University, where I earned my Bachelor's of Arts. I then acquired a Master's of Art in Teaching from Augusta State University, later known as Georgia Regents University, and now Augusta University. This institution remained my academic base as I pursued and achieved my Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction and an Educational Specialist add-on in Educational Leadership.
Feeling a deeper call to understanding humanity, I received my doctorate in Theology from North Central Theological Seminary. This holistic approach to education and the human spirit has been a driving force in my career.
Over the years, I've
