    The Awakening - Written Tales

    Part One

    Poetry

The art of art, the glory of expression and the sunshine of the light of letters, is simplicity.

    Walt Whitman

    Absolution of a Kiss

    J. Iner Souster

    Of eternities passing,

    I can hardly think-

of a better way to say goodbye.

To the sun and the moon,

    the water and the clouds.

    I've always wanted to live

someplace where the sky is blue.

With the light of a star,

the fragrance of a blooming fruit tree.

The kiss of a bare hand,

to the fading flowers on a winter's night.

To be the one last person-

who fell in love before the end of time.

When lost has already found you.

She was here. She lived. And now she's gone.

Forgiveness is a harrowing entity to manage.

It is the third quality of tragedy,

    the fourth quality of magic,

    the second quality of death,

and the first quality of belief.

    Perseverance equals-

    the ability to overcome,

    the overwhelming desire to run

and the will to hold on.

    Forgiveness allows-

us to live with our mistakes,

    even in the most minuscule,

    when absolution is forward.

And for that, if there is a God,

    I should forgive her

But if there isn't a god,

    I will forgive her anyway.

Even if I am nowhere to be found,

    I can still smile.

    Because in death,

    She is always beautiful. ¹

    Days and Light

    Thompson Emate

The mind is a pathway to the dreamland.

    Thompson Emate

    The farther I walk,

The more I am seen of myself,

    The higher I ascend,

The deeper into me I plunge.

    There’s a light in us,

    Disparate lights we bear,

    Though we're wounded and torn,

This light tarries in our chamber.

    Though dawn chauffeurs the unknown,

We can script our lines on its pages,

Though it brings us to a frail meadow,

    Roses are springing underneath.

The mind is a highway to treasures,

Faith & perseverance are the twosomes measures,

Hope is like a fragrant prayer,

    There’s a tranquil flow of events. ¹

    Evening's Watch

    Ann Garrett

    Rain drizzling

    I sit

        in the failing light

        staring up

            at the graying ceiling

    waiting for you to die,

        or is it,

            to live?

                You are on the edge.

            For you’ll be the one

to step out of time and space

                    into eternity;

            and you’ll be the one

                embraced by God,

                    his child:

                Running

                    unshackled from pain,

                    free from disease

                Running

through the lush green meadows of

                    the Kingdom of Joy.

    And I wonder,

as I sit here, already missing you, if

        I might not be envious

of all you will soon be able

            to see and do. ¹

    Flicker

    Ann van Wijgerden

    Palm fronds tango wind, sun-

    light & silhouettes shuttering

    like an old movie reel

    on backs of eyelids,

sneaking a cold beer into peak heat

    crevice of Philippine afternoon,

coming to terms with not coming

to terms with such poetic response

    to holocaust cruelty–my silence held

in cicada electric hum, escaping slip-

stream of a leaden sleep as one

    more strand unravels grip

    & eyelids flicker wide. ¹

    It's Not All About

    It's All About

    Andrea Laws

    it’s not all about death

    it’s all about discovering

    undeniable birth of a

    healthy baby

    it’s not all about a life-giving uterus

    it’s all about detecting

    lumps, tumors,

    torn tissue and infections

    it’s not all about misinformation

it’s all about girls (and boys)

    trapped in determining a

    future too early

    it’s not all about irresponsibility

    it’s all about pressuring

    educational systems to

    teach abstinence only

    it’s not all about abortion

    it’s all about understanding

health care to those that are

    jaded by their religious values

it’s not all about the woman

    it’s all about the man

    trying to reason the power

he once lost in his racial haze

it’s not all about the man

    it’s all about the others

    who will face similar cruelties

    once one is criminalized

it’s not all about the children

    it’s all about an environment

    they
