    Optimistic

I heard about an actor who wrote a check for $10 million to himself for acting services rendered. He was driving a beat-up car, broke, and he grew up poor. This same guy later started making $15 to $25 million in movies. After hearing about this I wrote myself a check, because I believe we move toward what we consistently see. That’s why I always have my dreams and goals in front of me, through drawing, a vision board, or having pictures that remind of that thing which I desire. Those pictures will remind me what I believe and what I’m looking to achieve. I have used this belief in everything that I have achieved: my apartment in New York City, purchasing a car, building my businesses, writing this book, making movies, etc. I put a picture up so that every time I see it, it reminds me that I’m moving forward towards my dream and what my goals are all about. If you are not reaching your full potential, it is not because you don’t believe or have faith, or the determination, or the talent, or the zeal, or the what-it-takes. It is because you are not keeping the perfect pictures in front of you—all around your surroundings, all over your house, or apartment, in your car. I put a picture or a hang-tag of my clothing line in front of the car mirror so I can see it and it will be right in front of me whenever I’m in the car.

My kids also know about this belief. My son has a picture drawn about what he wants to be when he grows up and it is in place by his bed-side. I have my company logo all around me, and those pictures inspire me, encourage me, and strengthen my belief, strengthen my faith. Each day when I wake up in the morning I start by thanking the creator of the universe, thanking him for wisdom, thanking him for health, thanking him that anything I put my hands unto will prosper. And I will remember what he did for me, keep memories of all the good things he has done for me. When I count my blessings, that strengthens my faith. I have gratitude for all he has done and that the creator of the universe will finish what he started. He’s in control and he shall bring it to pass; I just have to stay in faith.

My dream of having a clothing line has been in process for years. Twelve years have gone by but I didn’t get discouraged, I kept thanking the creator of the universe that my dreams and goals are on the way. For twelve years, each day when I wake up I thank God that my dreams and goals are on the way. Every day I’m saying to the universe, Thank you, that my dreams and goals are coming my way. That anything I put in hands unto are prospering even when I was sleeping in my car, broke with no money to put gas in my car, having to choose whether to put gas in my car or put food in my stomach, and it was winter time so I had to choose to put gas in my car so I could put on some heat, and as soon as the car warmed up I would turn it off so as to save gas. I would be woken up by the cold when the car was freezing.

I wasn’t discouraged. I kept moving forward, keeping faith, believing that the creator of the universe is in control. So I kept having the pictures of my dreams and goals in front of me, to keep reminding myself of what I believe in and what I’m looking for. These pictures always inspire me and activate my faith. With no vision or something to envision I’m stuck. Where there are no visions the people perish, and as a president of a non-profit organization I have always said it to my union that we need to have a vision of where we are going and what we wish to achieve as a community.

I even use the same belief system in leading my community. We have a project and I put up the project as our profile picture so that it will be in front of the whole membership and let everyone know where we are going as a community and everyone will know what the vision of the organization is all about. Every time I see that picture I keep saying Thank you, Lord, that our dreams are coming through, thank you for bringing our dream to pass, thank you that you are in control of our vision, thank you for this project that we are embarking on—even when we had a setback because of the coronavirus outbreak. We had a fundraiser scheduled before the COVID-19 outbreak but had to cancel and postpone it. But the vision is still there; the creator of the universe is in control and will surely give us that project.

While in detention I started drawing jeans styles, writing stories about life in detention, what I saw and experienced, thoughts on goals. When you have 24 hours a day to play with, you better make the best of it! While writing and drawing my jeans and movie script, I didn’t know how I was going to accomplish it but I have always had my vision in front of me. While in detention facing deportation, instead of worrying or preparing for a life back in Nigeria as many inmates were doing, I was dreaming about building a clothing line and an entertainment company based here in the US. My vision of a clothing line and entertainment company that will be broadcasting our content—those visions are what kept me going, and whenever I felt down I would always read my Bible, listen to worship song on the radio (sounds of life), and I would go through my visualizations. And whenever I felt discouraged or tired or thought that my visions were impossible, I always believed that God would not have given me this vision if he were not going to finish what he has started.

I’m always writing, drawing, reading, listening to all kinds of self-improvement books, novels, sermons, etc. Having dropped out of school and with no money to further my education, what were my options? I have to learn how to shoot or make movies so I can be able to shoot my advert or tell my stories. I didn’t know where to study or attend this filming school, but I know that God is in control and as long as I am authentic to my call I should be all right. I decided to tell God’s goodness through visuals or movies. That was my decision. It was also a promise that I made to the creator of the universe. It is your vision and other people might not see it and you can’t blame them; this is what you are here to
