    Chapter 1

    Knowing Your Calling

A Christian can be defined as an individual who wholeheartedly follows and learns from Jesus Christ, embodying the principles of His teachings. In addition, as true believers in Christ, we follow Christ by exemplifying both orthodoxy—the belief in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection—and orthopraxy—the practice of putting that faith into practice. Nevertheless, when individuals in positions of authority, who openly declare their faith in Jesus Christ, fail to enact the principles of that faith in their actions, it has far-reaching consequences. Primarily when the ethics of Christ are not implemented in policy, the less privileged members of society, such as the poor and working class, are significantly impacted.

As we become a manifestation of God's divine light, we illuminate the path for others to embrace and live according to the principles of His Kingdom. While Jesus frequently referred to His followers' community as the Kingdom of God, Christians in the United States might prefer to refer to it as God's Church. Christians are called to embody the principles of God's Kingdom of heaven in the present world, working towards the establishment of justice, mercy, and peace in an ideal society, as says the Lord’s prayers, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. They strive to establish a realm where the values of righteousness and compassion prevail—through the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ

In Romans 10:9-10, Paul emphasizes that the foundation of our salvation lies in both confessing with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believing in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead. This profound declaration leads to our eternal salvation, as faith in our hearts leads to righteousness, and vocalizing our belief brings about salvation. However, it is important to note that this act of faith and confession serves as the initial step in our Christian journey, marking the beginning of a transformative and ongoing experience. Once you pick up your cross and begin this journey with Him, you are commanded to live your lives under Jesus' instruction.

In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus highlighted the paramount commandment by stating, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. In addition, He emphasized the inseparable nature of this commandment by stating that loving one's neighbor as oneself is equally significant. The correlation between loving God and loving others is indisputable, as these two spiritual principles are intrinsically intertwined. Therefore, it becomes evident that loving God without demonstrating love towards our fellow human beings is an impossibility, given the interdependent nature of these divine laws.

Love for God and man can grow cold at times, yet it is the foundation of our faith. We can examine how He emphasized and instructed His followers to live the Kingdom ethics here on Earth by commanding that doing good to one’s neighbor is like doing good to Him.

For I was a stranger, and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes, and you did not clothe me; I was sick and in prison, and you did not look after me, says the statement. For I was hungry, and you gave me nothing to eat, and I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to drink.

They will also respond, Lord, when did we see you hungry, thirsty, a stranger, in need of clothing, sick, or in prison, and did not help you? He will respond, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.

Jesus discussed health care, economics, housing, food insecurity, prisoners, and poverty in Matthew 25:42–45. Tennessee is plagued by all of these issues and is ranked among the lowest in the nation in all of these areas that support the least of these. If we are to live out the ethics of the Body of Christ to which he calls us, we must ensure that we are on the side of Jesus when it comes to issues such as mass incarceration, affordable housing, livable wages, food insecurity, and health care, all of which are mentioned in the holy scriptures. The virtues exemplified by Jesus Christ serve as the guiding principles for us as believers, serving as a model to emulate in our lives.

As Christians, we have a divine mandate to share the Gospel across the globe. The essence of the Good News in the Bible is the proclamation that the Kingdom of God has arrived, which is the transformative message of the cross. Therefore, we are not truly living out and spreading the Good News of Jesus if we are not bringing the hope and joy of Jesus by being the salt and light of the Earth.

Jesus consistently aligned Himself with the marginalized, the vulnerable, and those burdened by oppression, demonstrating His unwavering support for the poor, the sick, and the oppressed. How can we say we are followers of Jesus Christ and ignore His most fundamental call to action? The authorities in prison must not only concentrate on the beliefs required to enter the church fellowship and, consequently, the Kingdom of God but also practice the precepts Christ commands of us.

During my early years as a Christian, I found myself in a predicament where I hesitated to respond to God's calling upon my life. As a young minister within a conservative Assembly of God church, I encountered a lack of opportunities for growth and development. While I experienced genuine love and respect from those
