Misfits Standup! How to Break into Standup Comedy in a Big Way - Trent Fox
Introduction
Is it a small world after all?
Damn right it is for us big folks, who don't fit.
What do I mean by Misfits Stand Up?
I consider myself a Misfit because I don't fit into a world that is not tolerate of people who are overweight. I am a large person who wears a size 16 shoe, stands over 6'6", weighs just South of 365.
This world is just too small for me, so I fight back through my standup comedy.
Do You Struggle To Fit Into a World That Seems Too Small for You Too?
You are not alone. There are plenty of us big folks who deal with things that make us angry as we literally
try to fit into a world that is not built for those who live in an oversized body. Whether it's trying to find clothes and shoes that fit, or dealing with the crazy small airplane seats, or the looks you get on a crowded elevator, this book will help you cope. Do you check out the chairs in restaurants before you sit down. If they are plastic or just look too small, do you panic and pick another place to eat?
Then this book is for you!
You will learn how to fight back and not let the It's a Small World
crowd beat you down. I know what I'm talking about when I say the world can be petty and mean to folks like me.
Imagine if you could turn this world on its head and find the funny in not fitting in. I will show you how to craft a comedy routine that will help you get to a good place and feel better about your size. And you will get the right kind of laughs.
But it's not just about the physical challenges. Misfits Stand Up also covers the basics of stand-up comedy, from writing jokes to performing on stage. It's a comprehensive guide filled with personal stories that will help you develop your skills and build your confidence as a comedian.
A key message of this book is the significance of being genuine. As a comedian with a larger stature, your outlook on the world is special and distinguishes you from other performers. Embrace this perspective and leverage it to your benefit. Avoid attempting to be something you're not, as audiences will quickly recognize the deception. Rather, stay true to yourself and allow your humor to stem from an honest place. Moreover, this book caters to anyone who senses a disconnect and desires to locate their niche in life. If you can identify the humor in what sets you apart, you can share these perspectives from a comedic platform.
Misfits Stand Up
highlights the significance of persistence in the field of stand-up comedy. This career path is tough to get into and typically requires several years of hard work and devotion to establish oneself. However, if you are willing to invest the time and energy, then this book can equip you with the necessary tools to achieve success. Alternatively, you may wish to keep performing on amateur stages while holding onto your day job. If you're feeling stressed from dealing with the world around you throughout the week, consider taking a break and attending an Open Mic Night to let loose. Once you do, you'll feel much better and will undoubtedly thank me later.

Note from the Author
I am an amateur comedian who has been doing standup since 1987. My first time on stage was a complete disaster. It was an open mic night at a local comedy club and I was not prepared for the dead silence as I stumbled through what I thought were funny stories about my life. My friends and family thought I was hilarious when I told stories at a party or family get-togethers. I thought I was really a funny guy and that it would be fun to entertain others in a comedy club. Well, I was so wrong!
I came off that stage like my pants were on fire and vowed never to return. There were several amateur comics who watched me struggle and instead of ignoring me and letting me leave, they took me aside and explained how the mistakes I made that night could be easily corrected. My stories were too long, lacked a strong punchline
