Author's Note

I still remember the first stand up gig that I had to perform. It was difficult to perform when I was so nervous. I had spent three months perfecting my jokes but failed to get any laughs - or what our industry call bombs.

I bombed terribly. I remember how badly my jokes were received by the audience. As bad as the memory is, that period is perhaps something that I can never forget. It was a disaster, but I cherish those times. This book is a compilation of all the lessons that I have learned in the past. I have tried to figure out the various lessons that I have learned in my journey towards becoming a standup comedian.

In this book, I wouldn't make any references to my real name and the places I perform. This is because I have a confidentiality agreement with several comedy clubs. I am currently based in Seattle but travel around the United States from time to time to perform gigs. I write this with a pen name, Simon Cavalli, as a reference to someone who has greatly inspired me. He was the one that have gave me a certain amount of money in order to pursue my standup journey.

I hope this book any aspiring standup comedians pursue their journey. It is a very tough journey. But perhaps, the toughest journey is the one which gives you the most happiness. It is a collection of the lessons that I have learned throughout the years.
