    Foreword

I want to begin by saying that I am mixed in a feeling of both joy and disappointment with the release of this endearing book. Joyful, because it is finally brought to the public. Disappointed, for there surely are better ways of doing it, both in terms of substance as well as style. But again, I am relieved, knowing this book has found its way into the hands of you, my reader. I'm probably not gonna say fulfilled, however, even as there are sparks of this as well, for there are other things to do before I may say to have truly arrived at that point.

As you, my beloved reader, may have guessed, I do not plan to write just one book. So, naturally, there are things that are left unsaid here and there, this being only my first. I hope, however, it having caught your eye, and more importantly, your spirit, you may join me on this journey and look forward to many more things to come. That said, I hope you can have a good time reading this one. Thank you.

Although the Word is the same, the majority live as if they have understanding of their own

    Heraclitus

    Book 1

Philosophy is not a body of doctrine but an activity. It is essentially a clarification. Without this means, thoughts are, as it were, vague and indistinct: its task is to make them clear, to confirm their boundaries.

    Ludwig Wittgenstein

    1.

To every other thing that is, is each thing related; and so, in the conceptual, rather than metaphysical sense–(metaphysics itself being a thing, that is to say, a ball of many-coloured threads).

    2.

To understand something, we cannot think of that thing. We start instead by pursuing a complete understanding of the world, of things in their entirety–and only after that can we understand any thing. But if we try to understand, by brooding, with no foresight or foundation, over that thing that we are looking at, then we won’t grasp the spark even of that thing, in the same way that a child, however serious, would still be wrong as to what a single piece of wood could mean without being aware of what puzzle is.

    3.

To understand, then, is to understand the world, and by the world we mean things as a whole. This we’ve already established. But what exactly is–a thing? A thing is a distillation-product of a thing. To be a thing, that is, a genuine thing, a thing has to be a concrete one, which is the condition of sense, and at last, meaning. A thing, on the other hand, as we define here, is an abstraction; consequently, we cannot talk about it, and need to do something before we are able to do so–this necessary process is what I shall call: deconstruction.
