The Power To Create - Morne Campher

The Righteous Shall Live By Faith

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’

    Romans 1: 17 (NKJV)

Faith in Jesus makes us righteous. From the very beginning, God’s plan for man has always been to live by faith.

Righteousness is based on faith. No amount of good works can ever earn righteousness. No ritual obedience can put us in a right standing with God. Only God can justify and declare us righteous.

God’s righteousness is in direct opposition to man’s sinfulness. Every person is guilty of sin and deserves to die. However, God is perfect, rich in mercy and full of grace. He gave us His only begotten Son.

Jesus died for us. He bore the penalty for our sins. It is through faith in Him that we are justified and declared righteous. God’s righteous judgement on sin was executed on the cross. Because Jesus was crucified, man can live in forgiveness.

That is the message of the gospel. Jesus revealed God’s uncompromised righteousness. That righteousness is based on faith.

Believing in Jesus is only the first step of faith. It is our foundation. As we continue to live by faith and grow in our relationship with Him, we move from one degree of faith to the other. We are saved by faith, we are justified by faith, we are sanctified by faith, we live by faith, are encouraged to keep on living by faith and one day we will be glorified, for He will finish the good work He started in each of us.

A child that escapes a fire in a burning house by climbing out of the second storey window, is still in danger. He could be burned alive by the flames pouring out of the window just beneath him. On the other hand, if he lets go, he will be smashed to pieces by falling. Only when a strong man cries out to him to let go and promises to catch him, does the child dare to let go. The child trusted the man to keep his word. His trust in the man’s ability saved him. He acted on faith.

In the same way, God is saying to every person Let go of your works, trying to earn righteousness. Jesus already made the way for you. Trusting Him, believing in Him is your salvation.

Lord Jesus, You are my Saviour. You laid down Your life for me. You paid the price for my sin with Your Blood. Thank you, Lord. In Your Name I pray, Lord Jesus. Amen.

    A Humble Attitude

And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

    Genesis 4: 3-5 (NKJV)

Faith brings forth a humbling attitude that serves God with honour.

There can be very little doubt that Adam and Eve raised their children in the ways of God. Both Cain and Abel brought an offering to the Lord. Cain was a produce farmer while Abel was a livestock farmer. Each brought an offering from the works of their hands to the Lord. However, Abel’s offering was accepted and Cain’s offering was rejected.

Faith is the only thing that lead to one offering being accepted and the other one being rejected. Abel, through his offering, declared that God was his Source. He gave God the very first of what he has been given. He gave the first-born of his flock to God. Cain on the other hand gave just an offering. His offering was given out of a sense of duty. Abel gave his best to God.

God looks at the heart of the giver. Whatever we give, we need to give it with faith. Giving is an act of worship. Giving in faith in God makes a bold statement: Irrespective of how things may look, I will trust in God. He is my Source – both in good times and the bad.

A Baptist preacher named Dr. George W. Truett accepted an invitation to preach at a church’s dedication service for their new building. He was told that the church needed a certain amount of money to pay off the building. Dr. Truett made the plea and less than half the amount required came in. One woman then spoke to her husband who was recording the amounts that came in.
