HISTORY OF MEXICAN SPANISH
The Spanish spoken in Mexico has its origins in the time of the Spanish conquest in the early 16th century. The Spanish arrived in Mexico in 1519 and found a region inhabited by a large number of indigenous peoples who spoke a variety of languages. The Spanish began to teach Spanish to the indigenous people and to use it as a language of communication and administration.
––––––––
The Spanish spoken in Mexico at that time was influenced by the language and culture of the indigenous people and also by the Spanish spoken in Spain. Over the centuries, Mexican Spanish has continued to evolve and has incorporated many words and expressions from the Nahuatl language, the most widely spoken indigenous language in Mexico before the arrival of the Spanish, as well as other indigenous languages and foreign languages like English and French.
––––––––
In the 18th century, Mexican Spanish underwent a great deal of change due to the influence of the Academia de la Lengua Española, which was established in Spain in 1713 and established norms and rules for the use of Spanish. These changes were reflected in the Spanish of Mexico and in other Latin American countries.
In the 20th century, Mexican Spanish continued to evolve and has become the main language of communication in the country. It is important to note that Mexican Spanish is not a monolithic language and that there are regional and dialectal differences in the country.
