MATERIALS

• Plymouth Worsted Merino Superwash medium (worsted) weight merino wool yarn (3½ oz/ 218 yds/100g skeins):

2 skeins each #95 sunflower and #96 truffle

• Size J/10/6mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Stitch marker

• Tapestry needle

8 sc = 2 inches; 6 rows = 2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

To adjust size, go up or down in hook size.

Tension is important, especially at the beginning and end of rows. Adjust tension in this area to ensure correct gauge and appearance.

Do not pull any of the tops of stitches tight—they will be inside of hat and will not affect appearance. Only posts of stitches will show on the outside of main portions of hat, headband and mitts. The trim bands will include other stitches.

Unless you have to add a new skein of yarn, you will only have one end of both yarn colors to weave in at the beginning and end of items before adding the trim bands.

To prevent tangling and distortion of design, always keep truffle yarn fed from front of project and sunflower yarn from back of project while crocheting. If you notice that yarns have twisted, pull out until they are not twisted and redo those stitches.

All stitches in bodies of items will be crocheted around the posts of the previous round’s posts from front to back to front, never in the top of the stitches. Always crochet around yarn that is carried across the top front of stitch and post of previous round together as one, with this exception:
