Twenty Four Days To Christmas - Arthur Fred

    DAY 1

Twas the first of December, the month Christmas comes

And Poppy woke up and rushed in to her Mum,

‘Is it Christmas?’ she cried as she bounced on the bed

‘I can’t wait to see Santa’s wonderful sled’

‘Full of presents for me and my Mummy and Dad’,

‘and for all of my friends if they haven’t been bad’

‘Mummy I really can’t wait any more,’

‘Will he be here today on his round the world Tour?’

Her Mummy awoken, sat up very straight

‘I’m sorry My Poppy, but you’ll just have to wait.’

‘There are 24 days until Christmas Day’s here’

Poor Poppy stopped bouncing and her eyes filled with tears

‘But Mummy, I can’t wait for 24 days,’

‘That’s nearly a lifetime, I’ll be in my old age.’

Poppy’s Mummy looked down at her daughter so wan

And said, ‘never mind Darling, I have a great plan,’

For the twenty-four days that we all have to wait

‘For Santa, we’ll do something really quite great.’

‘We’ll make every day something special for you,’

‘And we’ll find something new and exciting to do.’

‘We will keep you so busy you’ll no longer fear’

‘That you’ll be in your old age before Santa gets here.’

‘Oh, Mummy,’ said Poppy, ‘that sounds like great fun,’

‘When can we start and what’s the plan for day one?’

Poppy’s Mummy just smiled and gave her a wink

‘Let’s go downstairs and then have a good think.’

So down they both went and there, by the fire

Poppy saw little stockings hung up on a wire.

24 stockings, one for each day, she must wait

until Rudolph arrived with the sleigh.

Look Mummy, cried Poppy, now all in a tizzy

Santa’s elves must have brought them to keep me quite busy.

She opened the stocking which was marked with a 1

And found a small chocolate, which went straight in her tum!

    Poppy
