    GETTING STARTED

    To start using MS word, you must have it installed on your computer or use it online. Some computers come with Microsoft Office preinstalled, but if you do not have it, you can get it following the steps below:

    1.2.1 Buy MS Word

    1. Open your web browser, e.g., Google Chrome.

    2. Go to office website: www.office.com.

    3. Click on Get office if you want an office or MS Word on your desktop and buy from the available options:

    • Office 365 Family and Office 365 Personal: You can share Office 365 Family with six people, while Office 365 Personal is limited to only one person. They are both the same in function, and both require continuous subscriptions. Office 365 is the best option for any user who wants access to all the up-to-date office apps and cloud services. It can run on windows 11, 10, 8, 7, and macOS.

    • Office Home & Student 2021: This is the latest version of office available for a one-time payment and contains only the essential apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote, Team, and Publisher). You can only use it on Windows 11, 10, and macOS.

    4. Install Microsoft Office, and MS word is available on your desktop foruse.

    1.2.2 Use MS Word Freely

    If you are not interested in buying Microsoft office, you can use it freely on the Microsoft official website. The Word online version is new and does not contain all the features in the desktop version. The website version cannot also work when there is no connectivity, making the offline/ desktop version a good choice.

    To use MS word freely online; visit their website, www.office.com.

    sign in if you have an existing account or

    create a new one if you do not have one, and MS word will be available for your use.

    OPENING AND PINNING MS WORD.

    To open an MS word:

    1. Type Word in your computer search bar.

    2. Left-click on the word icon or Open to open a new MS word file.

    3. You can also click any recent lists to open an already existing file.

    If you often use Word, it will be better to pin it to the start or taskbar.

    To pin an MS Word to start or taskbar:

    1. Right-click on the Word icon. A menu appears.

    2. Select Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar as desired from the menu.

    When you first open MS word, you will land on the start screen Home page, as shown below. The page has a blue vertical bar on the left side containing tabs to the right-side contents. The rest of the tabs have their shortcuts link on the Home page.

    You have a Blank document on the Home screen that you can use to start from scratch. Also available are several learning tutorials and templates that can quickly get you started with MS Word. Click on more templates or the New tab at the left-hand bar if you want more templates.

    Below the templates is the list of the Recent Word document. The Open tab at the left-sidebar or the More documents link opens more available documents at the right bottom corner of the list. Frequently open documents can be pinned and accessed in the Pinned beside the Recent list

    Starting Word 2019

    The way in which you start Word depends on whether you’re using a desktop PC or a tablet, and the operating system version.

    From Windows 10

    Click the Windows Start button and look through the list

    If Word isn’t in the Recently added or Most used sections, scroll through the alphabetical list and choose Word
