About this ebook

Being transported into a fairy wonderland was easy for a little girl growing up on a large family farm in Rhode Island, surrounded by the beauty of nature and its many animal residents. Ann Marie could always be found reading her fairytales in her favorite spot on the property, the big red barn. Along with the farm tractor and lots of bales of hay, there were always many friendly cats slipping in and out of the barn all day. Often, she would fall asleep there, cuddling with the cats and dreaming of castles far away. The cats were the magical creatures starring in her fairy tales.

    INTRODUCTION

In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this. – Terry Pratchett

The smallest Feline is a masterpiece.

    - Leonardo Da Vinci

The history of the cat traces back almost 40 million years ago. As time went by, cats became an integral part of the Egyptian culture. In the eighteenth century, in both France and England, cats were prized as pets and featured in beautiful paintings. Charles Perrault even wrote the French fairy tale Puss In Boots in 1697, which achieved huge popularity.

Cats were so loved that the first British Cat Show in London, England, was held in 1871. It was the first cat show in the world and the start of many other cat showings.

In 1865, Louis Carroll published Alice In Wonderland, in which the Cheshire Cat was an object of respect. From then on, children’s books started representing kittens and cats as loveable creatures and good pets for children. By the nineteenth century, cats were full members in society.

It is also known that on the Mayflower there was at least one cat aboard, brought to America as a family pet of first pioneers.

This book is dedicated to the memory of three beautiful and loving fur babies; Butterscotch, Saki, and Tasha, who are now cat angels with whiskers. I will never forget you!

    REX’S DREAM

When Rex was just a small Bengal kitten, he liked to hang around and watch the next-door neighbor as he carved out wood into beautiful shapes. It fascinated Rex and so at night when everyone was sleeping, he would go over and borrow the neighbor’s tools and try it himself. After a few cuts and bruises, Rex finally mastered the art. It helped that he had a highly creative streak and a photographic memory of how the carving process was done.

But wood carving would not be a good paying career for you, his mom and dad said. "What else would you like to
