Growing up in Uzbekistan, an affinity with rich colours was installed in Liliya Salakhutdinova from a young age. Today this passion is projected through her textile brand Anor Living and her Old Rectory home in Somerset.
She remembers early memories of her grandmother wearing traditional Uzbek ikat dresses, which she liked so much she’d try on as a child. “I didn’t understand at the time that the dresses were not just beautiful materials but also pieces of art produced with great skill and cooperation.”
Although she previously studied and then worked in marketing, Liliya increasingly found herself hungry to focus on something more creative. “I wanted to return to my fascination of working with fabrics and patterns. As a child I always enjoyed designing and making things. When I was very young it was dresses for my dolls; as I grew older I started to design and make my own clothing inspired by fashion magazines my mother collected over the years.”
