How to Build An Easy Smart Home. - Greg Wigglesworth
CHAPTER ONE
WHAT TO BUY FOR APPLE HOME KIT SMART HOME
The first question you going to ask yourself and try to solve before setting up a smart home with a Home kit is what devices will you use, How to choose the right system, and what are things to buy, these are common questions that people frequently ask.
We are going to look at which company to recommend and which product to get
What product to buy depends on the smart home echo system that you want to go with?
VARIOUS DEVICES TO INSTALL IN A SMART HOME
Core Devices
Smart Switches
Smart Lighting
Sensor & Buttons
Smart Plugs
IR/RF Remotes
Window Curtain/Blind
I will consider these devices are under the core Home devices.
Any automation happening around the house revolves around them. So they need to be able to communicate with each other easily.
For the next stage of the devices, I will consider them optional.
Optional Devices
Smart Speakers
TVs
Smart Doorbells, Smart Door Locks, Security Cameras, and a Wifi Mesh System.
It’s good to have certain features and to do certain automation. For Home entertainment, we have the speakers, and TVs you would want to link to your voice activation such as Siri, Google, and Alexa.
Take note Home Kit is only available for only iPhone Users.
To get started with Home Kit you would need to get a Home Hub like the Hub Pod mini speaker or the Apple TV box.
The Home Pod Mini will be a great option. It will allow you to make use of Siri to trigger voice commands.
Recommendation for the Core Devices
AQARA SWITCHES
You can buy them from china or anywhere it doesn’t matter as long they can work with Home Kit.
You have the H1 Switch and the D1 Switch
If you are looking for switchers with dimming controls and you have extra money to spare you can go with OLUTRON which is popular in the United States. One switch can control lots of bulbs.
For smart lighting, there are a few options you can go for, PHILIPS HUE, and NANOLEAF, but their price is on the higher end.
If want to go for the cheaper brand you can go for YEELIGHT, and GOVEE each of them can have a unique feature of their own that you can’t find elsewhere.
For Census and Patterns go for AQARA SENSORS & BUTTONS. They are chip and good and will last long.
There are good ranges of products that can be used for different use cases. In terms of designs that is important too because you are going to fix it to different places in the
