    I. For Such a Time

    Death isn’t cessation of breath and pain isn’t straining a hamstring.

    Without a doubt the most difficult parts of the Lord’s Passion occurred at the beginning and the end. The beginning saw him writhe in mental anguish in Gethsemane. The end saw him cry out in dereliction when the Father forsook him. I’m convinced that all the suffering in-between these poles paled greatly in comparison.

    Every Easter the Filipino believers make headlines by nailing a few of their own to homemade crosses. Such lacklustre pricking doesn’t even begin to demonstrate the essence of true suffering.
