    I had a deadline to meet for the interior design project, but my eyes were swimming as I stared at the images in front of me. I needed a break. Closing the window for my work, I opened up the internet, and went directly to find some mindless videos to scroll through until I could think again.

    Sitting back in the dark of my home office, I rolled my shoulders and chuckled to myself as first a cooking fail video went past, then some video about a couple of cats bopping each other on the head went by. The third video took me a moment to recognize what I was seeing.

    On stage, my boyfriend and his band were performing in front of a shimmering blue wall. The crowd was screaming. He and his duet partner had dressed up to the nines: no more black on black for them. They’d gone with formal blue ensembles to match their backdrop.

    To my surprise, they were doing a Celine Dion cover from Titanic. I couldn’t remember if that was supposed to be part of the original show or not. I remembered him, years ago, saying he wasn’t interested in doing covers, that he and the band had enough original music not to need to. That he wanted them to be known for more than other peoples’ music.

    Whatever the case, they were both very, very good, and as they clasped hands, the crowd was going wild. I checked the date, and sure enough, they’d been performing earlier that day, on a stage across the world from where I sat in our Massachusetts home.

    Their voices ramped up, the final part of the song coming into focus as the music rose around them. A thrill filled my heart and I leaned in. This had to be the end of the performance, too, with the way they both looked so tired.
