Excerpt:

"Where are you going?" Caleb asked.

"I'm returning to the party."

"No, you're not. Grab your coat. We're out of here. Right now."

"I want to stay. I'm sure I can find someone that can help me."

"Oh for god's sake. If anyone is going to teach you anything, I'll do it myself," Caleb said, looking more determined than before.

Bea shook her head. "No, I don't believe you. You're just saying that to get me out of here."

Caleb pulled her back and crowded her against the wall. "When I say I'll do it, I will. But only on my terms."

It sounded intriguing. But Caleb was an expert in manipulating her, so he could probably find a way to wheedle out of his promises. Maybe he could even make her change her mind. It would be typical of how he worked. Bea had learnt her lesson when it came to Caleb and Lucas. Believing they promised something when the reality was something entirely different.

"What are the terms?" Bea asked with suspicion.

"You want experience. I'll teach you what you need to know."

It sounded too good to be true. "And in return?"

"Exclusivity. You come to me and no one else. I set the pace and decide what we do," Caleb said.

"What's the downside?"

"No downside. Except you have to wait for it. Beg for it," Caleb said smugly, looking as if he'd regained the upper hand.

Bea snorted. "Wishful thinking. I never beg."

'Ada Stuart' is the pen name of a Scandinavian reader that has turned writer - since no one else seems to be writing what I like to read. I simply adore strong-willed heroines and stories with lots of sexy dialogue, so basically, that's what I write. It all started as a challenge from my husband – and that challenge has so far resulted in 60 novels and shorter stories, most of which can be found under my pen name. So, feel free to stop by for more stories. My favourite genre is and has always been Erotic romance, but with a background from IT programming and Biology, my stories are often influenced by that. A few words from the author

In the Spring of 2022 , my entire family came down with COVID. But the symptoms differed despite having the same illness. For me, it got stuck in my brain. Resulting in something my doctor called a mild ‘Alzheimer's’. I hope I never catch the real thing, to be honest. For several weeks, I struggled to form words and sentences. And the short-term memory was so terrible that even writing a simple SMS demanded more brain cells than I ever could have imagined.

I’ve recovered, but the experience has taught me how much you take for granted until it’s no longer there. And I realise how terrible it must be to have the real thing with no chance of recovery. My deepest sympathies go to those who have Alzheimer’s or know someone who does. I definitely know where my next charity donation will go.

After recovering, I started writing again, and the first draft of this story clearly proved just how much COVID can affect your mind. Countless edits later, the story has become something I enjoy writing and reading. I sincerely hope you, too, will like to read about Bea and Caleb.

And I also like the reminder that we did it; we made it through despite all the dark thoughts and the fear that nothing would ever be the same.

    Chapter 1 Waiting for him

Bea watched as Will Morgan kissed another woman. Damn, she knew it was a mistake to come to the party. She should have stayed at home as she'd planned. Particularly when she knew Will would be up to his usual antics. Bea lowered her gaze and watched a drop of condensation slither down her glass. Her long brown hair curled forward, hiding her features. It was just as well. She had lost the mood having seen what Will was up to.

She considered her options. If she left, everybody would know it was because of Will. She hated that everybody knew she was captivated by him despite her attempts to hide it. Even her brother, Lucas, had begun teasing her about it. Bea feared their friends knew much more about her feelings for Will than she wanted them to.

She adored him. Always had. Even when they were playing together as kids. He was the sunshine among the clouds. Making everybody turn in his direction, hoping he would recognise them. Will had an easy-going personality that lit up every room. Making everybody feel like they were having an exciting time and making a dull party feel like the event of a lifetime.

Bea had no idea how he did it. All she knew was that she liked him and wanted to talk to him. Right until his broad smile landed on his current victim. Bea knew his affairs never lasted long. Usually, he would have another woman on his arm in a few days. Still, she always hoped that one day he would turn his seduction skills on her and prove that her fantasies faded in comparison. But he never did. Despite all her attempts to be in Will’s sight, his eyes always skipped past Bea before finding another woman.

Well, fuck him. She was better off without him. But despite all her inner reasoning, a question lurked in her mind. What was wrong with her? Why didn’t Will see her as a potential lover? She hated the feeling of inadequacy. Hated that she didn’t know what she could do differently.

Bea looked at her glass again, following the route of another condensation droplet. It slid from side to side with a strong determination to reach the bottom, no matter what. Nothing could prevent it from going where it wanted. It had a stubborn determination that was both appealing and frustrating. She felt like that droplet. Forever fighting her way toward the one thing that she wanted. It had worked to land her a job that she loved. But her quest for a boyfriend had been unsuccessful. If she kept on showing up, being within his reach, Will would eventually discover her. Wouldn’t he?

What would it take to make Will notice her? How desperate did she need to become to get what she wanted? And would sheer determination be enough to give her what she wanted? After all, he would have to give in one day. He just had to.

CAN YOU KEEP AN EYE on Bea for me? Caleb heard his best friend, Lucas Dalton, ask.

I’m not sure if our friendship includes looking after kid sisters, Caleb said, trying to sound normal. He didn’t need Lucas suspecting how he really felt about his younger sister.

She’s up to something. I can tell.

How? Caleb sipped his beer while he looked around them, pretending to search for said sister. It was all a pretence. He always knew where Bea was. Every time Bea entered a room, a signal started inside him and pointed directly at her. He had tried to ignore it. Tried to figure out what it was. But it kept emerging no matter how he refused to give in to the temptation. Ever since he’d first met her, something about the mischievous glance in her eyes drew him in.

I don’t like how she watches Will. Like he’s something edible.

Me neither, Caleb said. He had noticed, and he hated that Bea cared more for his carefree younger brother than him. But he wasn’t stupid enough to reveal his annoyance to Lucas. The code of honour demanded he stay the hell away from Lucas’ younger sister. But since Bea tended to get herself into trouble, Lucas had drafted Caleb in to help protect her. Caleb was always ready to help him with Bea, even if it was for different reasons than Lucas thought. But it looks like Will has chosen someone for tonight.

That’s exactly what has me worried. Bea might jump someone else in an attempt to make Will notice her. You know how her mind works. So could you keep a close eye on her for me?

Sure, Caleb sighed. I’ll do the babysitting. But why can’t you do it?

You know why, Lucas said, nodding toward his new girlfriend, Alice.

Figures. So you’re having a fun time while I do the dirty work? Caleb teased him, knowing Lucas would repay him several times
