About the Author
Praises for The RIGHT Teacher
To say that the bedrock of every industry is built upon the diligence and consistency of teachers is putting it very mildly. Children and young adults who are full time students spend most of their waking hours in school, therefore, it is of utmost importance that at every point of their educational sojourn, students should meet the ‘The Right Teacher’.
I am aware that schools often present modern and global curricular as part of their differentials as they strive to stay unique in a market as competitive as education. As a discerning parent however, I also know that fancy curricula paint only a small part of the picture and that it is in fact the teacher who goes over and beyond to implement the ideas stated and has a key role in ensuring that the child not only imbibes learning today but is also stimulated to pursue lifelong learning.
We all have tales of those great teachers who inspired us to become more in life and hopefully fewer experiences of those teachers who made us disinterested in one subject or another- I bring this up because we must understand the potential both the right and wrong teachers have to impact the learning decision of all the students that they inadvertently influence consequently shaping their perception of the world before them.
Through this book aptly titled- The Right Teacher, Dr. Abimbola creatively raises very salient points that ought to stand as road markers for every educator worth his /her salt. Beyond merely considering these ideals, educators should adopt them as best practice. As we consider the evolution of education within the last century, it is apparent that teachers across the globe must strive to be at the very top of their game in order to act as facilitators to learning in an age where information continues to evolve at the speed of light. Time is now for educators to elevate the profile of the oldest and noblest profession of all time.
Having mentored and actively interacted with Dr. Abimbola over the last few years, I can unequivocally say that her passion for reform in the education sector, especially in Nigeria is unrivalled. This is evidenced in her commitment to providing continuous personal and professional development to teachers both within and outside the direct ambit of her influence. This work is a piece of her heart for the education sector and provides a subtle mix of wit and wisdom as she shares practical advice and real-life experiences in each chapter. She not only tackles the mediocrity which has for many decades eaten into the fabric of the education sector but she also raises the bar of the personal and professional standards within the industry and invites one and all to hold themselves accountable.
I can safely say that Dr. Abimbola has successfully transposed the values and virtues learned through her first discipline as a medical doctor to the teaching profession and is a beacon of light and hope to educators in Nigeria that ‘more’ is possible if they apply themselves accordingly- challenging the paradigm that teaching is a profession of last resort.
This book is a must read for discerning teachers, parents, policy makers and citizens alike. Teaching is everyone’s forte as we must all teach or be influenced by teachers one way or another. Teaching must be intentional and through reading this book, you will indeed be on the sure path to becoming ‘The Right Teacher.’

This book ‘The Right Teacher’ is a must read not only for all educational practitioners but for all leaders and policy makers involved in education. Dr Abimbola has outlined what I describe as a manual for teachers and what must become a guide for the recruitment of teachers. The word ‘Right’ has been used as an acronym to encapsulate the many virtues that the teacher must possess. For example, if the R which represents result oriented, responsible, resolute, relationship oriented, resourceful, responsive and reflective is not the hallmark of the teacher you are about to recruit then as a school leader you are doing both your school and the wider community a disservice by employing such a teacher. This book is theoretical as well as practical with action points. It is a timely book as the global community focuses on improving the quality of education which is enshrined in teacher development. This book is loaded with wisdom and is simple as well as comprehensive enough to produce an exceptional teacher. I am delighted that Dr Abimbola has provided what we can term as an encyclopaedia for teachers to benchmark their attributes, values, practice and pedagogy. I am delighted that the growth mindset is mentioned addressing the teacher not the student which is the rhetoric of most books focused on student achievement. I am confident that as you read this book you would not only be transformed but you will appreciate the work that our teachers do and our expectations of them. I implore you to add value to each teacher you know by getting them a copy of this book.
