The Adventures of Jedediah the Mule - Alita Buzel
Chapter One
Far, far away, or maybe just around the corner, there was a very rich town where the roads were paved with gold and the stores were filled with fancy clothes and glimmering jewels. All the people and, of course, all their dogs wore the most elegant attire as they strolled the golden roads and shopped in the very chic stores. Everyone walked with their noses pointed high in the air, which was rather silly since they could not see anything but the sky (and the tips of their very long, elegant noses) and which caused lots of bumps and falls. But done with grace and style!
As was the custom in very rich towns in the country, there was also a very elegant stable named Buttercup Farm. Of course, the riders and horses were dressed in the very latest horsy fashions. They were all lovely to see, but, in truth, the well-dressed riders couldn’t stay on their horses, and the horses couldn’t do anything but go in circles around the ring. As was the custom, they all had their noses in the air and, of course, this made riding very difficult! The well-dressed riders trotting along on their well-dressed horses blindly bumping into each other created quite a chaotic scene! Flop! Flop! Flop!
The workers in this stable had to work very hard and for many hours since the horses and riders needed so much help and attention. The workers were born in countries where horses were precious and part of the family and had learned to ride at the same time as they had learned to walk. Their horses had their noses in the hay, not in the air, where horses’ noses should be!
One day, when spring had just arrived and everything at Buttercup Farm was turning green and lush, a horse trailer pulled up to the stable. Out stepped the most beautiful, regal mare the color of spun gold with a long, flowing mane of pure white. The mare calmly looked around at her new home. Estrella had arrived, and Buttercup Farm would never be the same.
Chapter Two
Estrella looked around with curiosity at the stable, the farm, and the lovely fields where she saw many horses looking back at her! It was a beautiful scene, very tranquil, with green mountains in the distance, colorful flower beds surrounding the ranch, and many charming and cozy buildings.
She’s really beautiful! Quite impressive,
whispered the other horses to each other . . . with just a bit of jealousy showing. Who is she? Where did she come from?
Estrella trotted over to the others to introduce herself. Hello! My name is Estrella and I come from a land very, very far away called Mexico. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you, but now, I’m very tired from my journey. Please forgive me, for I need to rest. I will see you all in the morning, my new friends.
Sleep well!
they responded. We’ll see you in the morning.
With this, the
