Chapter I
The Beginning
I remember the Great War. The way the sky burned. The faces of angels were destroyed. I was there during the great fall when a third of our brothers were banished. And now all my brothers are not brothers anymore. My name is Shinuel, and what started as a peaceful protest became violent. Where should I start, I guess I will start at the beginning.
Since infinity, when the universe was being created and filling it with life with a multiverse. Every existence multiplied by possibilities that spread out in space and time in infinite measure. Civilizations have risen and they have fallen. This has for always, been happening.
In an abode on a world that had no name, was a tyrannical ruler who ruled his kingdom. He provided all for his people. We had no worries about food or shelter. No one had to work. Anything we wanted in the world was there for us. The catch was there was, a price to pay for all this. That price was our freedom. Everyone had to obey him without question and glorify him on command.
He demanded worship and anyone who disobeyed was severely punished, so we didn’t have much choice. Obey and have everything provided for you, or disobey and be obliterated. This totalitarian world disguised as a utopia went on for quite some time. This tyrant was very technologically advanced he convinced us his slaves, that he was the creator of the universe and that he had our best interests at heart.
For some time, I felt there was more to life than just serving this ruler. Whenever I started to question things, I would just rebuke myself those thoughts. No one dared to question Father, that is what we called him.
There were various orders of angels that were well organized. The best description of our organization, is that it was like that of an army.
Some angels had authority over the elements such as fire, water, air and the abyss. Every order had an archangel (chief angel) that led it. Every Archangel had his own army and the Archangel Michael had his own army of warrior angels. His name literally meant, Who is like God
. He seemed to be one of Father’s favorites next to Samael who was his right-hand man. Samael radiated so much beauty, his aura itself was powerful.
All angels were not men as popular culture depicted, there were also women angels as well. At the time, I didn’t understand why Father would make two genders when we were not allowed to mate. We were immortal, or that was what we were led to believe. I knew we could die, I saw some of our brothers snuffed out of existence.
There was this one female angel named Eirene. She was a lieutenant to Michael. She was powerful and about 7 to 8 feet tall. Her beauty, speed, lightness, and focus were like that of an eagle and I found her admirable. She was in another order so going just over to talk to her wasn’t appropriate.
There were other female angels too, like Jennah, Dumah and Aisah. Aisah was in the same order as I was.
I was an angel under the command of the Archangel Azrael, in his army. As a militant group under the orders of our Father, our different orders would invade other worlds to get them to become followers to our Father. We were able to establish colonies and outposts on many outer planets. We were about conquering the universe by colonizing every planet we encountered.
At the time, I felt on we were doing the humans a service. We were told that what we were doing was for the good of humanity and that it was in their best interest to follow and worship our Father. We were led to believe that these humans were lost and it was up to us to save them. We did this many times but I really didn’t care if they were saved or not. I thought of the humans as lesser beings, who were less consciously aware than we were, and therefore I gave it no second thought to slaughtering men, women and children. I’m sure these humans had felt the same way whenever they'd stomped on ants. That was how I felt about humans.
I stood tall there with my sword in my hand, as it was covered in blood. My black wings were spread wide. Was I proud of my job? I felt nothing, it was the job that I was assigned to do and I did it. While Michael’s army relentlessly slaughtered on Father’s command, our order would target specific people clandestinely that were seen as a threat. We were all trained assassins.
My job under Azrael at the time was to act as a trained assassin. There was a tribe on a planet that was seen as a threat because they were against another tribe who followed our Father. I was one of the angels who helped slaughter all the firstborn of the enemy tribe. Azrael was the leader of this mission.
Isn't this fun?
asked Aisah. As we stood there together, each holding a sword dripping of blood from our most recent slaughters she looked over at me smiling.
Fun?
I questioned.
Well, we might as well get something out of it,
Aisah stated still smiling.
I’m just doing what is needed to be done,
I responded.
You have to enjoy yourself sometimes, and since we can change our appearance. Why not have fun doing our job in a grotesque form to scare these mortals,
Aisah suggested.
I just like to get in, do my job and get out,
I said matter-of-factly.
Well, playing with these humans can be fun, it makes the job less boring,
Aisah whispered.
My friend Satriel was there, carrying a scythe that was very much like Azrael’s. He was a lieutenant under him and overheard us talking.
Do what is necessary and get it done,
he said.
I am,
I responded.
I like to play with them, I like to see the expressions on their faces,
Aisah stated.
It’s all good, I just never get that personal with these creatures to see how they react, I just kill who needs killing,
Satriel clarified.
After easily murdering a few million or more of these puny humans, we traveled back to our world. A few stayed behind, to make sure the humans that were left were doing what they were told. We all prostrated ourselves to give our Father his daily praise. Sometimes I found this tiresome, but of course, I kept this to myself. Father wanted praise all the time. The angels who were not part of an army would spend all day praising, Him
. They would frolic and play in the idyllic Golden City. Father would take care of us all, everything was provided. The collateral was just to give him his praise.
One day my friend Satriel came to me secretly about something.
Shinuel, you have to see this,
he asserted.
Just follow me so I can show you,
Satriel suggested.
I followed him to see where all this was headed.
I didn’t know what part of the city, if any Father didn’t have his eyes upon. There was no privacy in our world. Everyone was always being watched. Satriel said knew of a blind spot where Father couldn’t see. I don’t know how he knew this but he knew. I followed him into a secret space. We had the technology to travel anywhere we wanted in the universe through the use of portals. I wasn’t sure how well Father could keep an eye on us while he was bathing in the glory of being praised though but I trusted that Satriel knew what he was doing.
When we arrived, I was surprised to see another archangel was also there. His name was Azazel. Not Azrael, but Azazel who was a leader of another order outside of my own. This was the first time that I had ever been in the direct presence of an archangel other that the leader of our order. I had no idea what this was about. It seemed so strange that an archangel of another order would be secretly in communication with anyone in our order. Watching him, I saw he held in his left hand a metallic disk.
Hi, Azazel, nice to meet you,
I greeted him appropriately.
Nice to meet you too.
What is that?
I whispered, pointing to the disk.
It’s the Akashic Records,
he whispered quietly.
How did you get that? You know Father forbids us any access to this,
I whispered.
It’s not important how we got it,
Satriel said.
We just have it, so now let me show you something about it,
Azazel informed me.
You do realize how much trouble we can get into for this?
I pointed out.
Yes, though somehow I feel that I can trust you,
Satriel said.
The Akashic Records also called the Book of Life is a compendium of all human events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future. Every action from everyone has been recorded.
Azazel held the disk up as it projected a swirl of energy which coalesced in front of us. Holographic images of past and present events began to appear.
I had thought of myself as being awake but it couldn't be. This was a nightmare of sorts, but it was more vicious than most, and more lucid. To have to face the harsh reality of what I was being shown angered me the most. What came next shocked my view of everything that I thought I knew of reality.
My whole life was a lie; all I believed in was just a lie. I didn’t know how to process everything that I had just witnessed. My own view of reality came crashing down on me when I saw the truth. My eyes and mouth were frozen open, agape in an expression of stunned surprise, as I stared at the horrible of horrors being shown by the projection.
Chapter II
The Fifth Column
In the Book of Life known as the Akashic Chronicle, it was revealed that everything we believed in was a lie. I wasn’t the only one who questioned Father’s motives. Our Father didn’t create the universe, it was not ever created. He
had just fooled us to believe it, that the advanced technology He
possessed, meant that He
existed before the universe came into existence. The universe wasn’t created, it's always been in a state of being created. The cycle of life had been going on for many many eons, way before his existence. This
