    The Riddle

    Sarah was bored.

It wasn’t even one week into summer vacation and there was nothing to do.

Ugh Brisco, what are we going to do all summer? Sarah sighed and looked over at her 80-pound Doberman. She flopped backwards on her bed with her arms stretched out to her sides and sighed…again.

Brisco let out a matching sigh of his own.

Sarah! Her mom yelled up the stairs. Telephone!

Excited for anything to happen, Sarah jumped from her bed and took off down the hall, Brisco, hot on her heels. They raced down the steps as Fay May, Sarah’s mom, shook her head.

Someday you’re both going to trip over each other and get hurt. Fay scolded.

Sarah giggled and patted Brisco on the head. Fay looked down and handed her daughter the phone. It’s Aunt Sage.

Sarah’s eyes lit up when she took the phone.

Hi Auntie Sage. Sarah said cheerfully.

How’s my Doodlebug? Aunt Sage asked.

    Bored. Sarah replied.

Hmm, I have a feeling that’s not going to last much longer. Aunt Sage said mysteriously.

Why? Are you coming for a visit? Sarah asked.

No Bug. Aunt Sage said. But I have something important to tell you that may keep you busy for a while.

    Yay! Sarah cheered. A story!

Auntie Sage was her mom’s Aunt which made her Sarah’s Great Aunt, and what a great Aunt she was. She told wonderful stories about pirates, and ghosts and exciting places Sarah would love to see someday. All the things that Sarah loved to daydream about. Ray May, Sarah’s dad, thought it was just a bunch of nonsense just to keep Sarah awake at night. He was not a big fan.

Calm down Doodlebug. Aunt Sage said laughing. You’re going on a trip!

    I am? Sarah asked. Where?

You will have the answers soon, but you must be patient. Aunt Sage replied.

Answers to what? Sarah asked sounding more excited.

I need you to go and get a pencil and paper so you can write this down and remember it when you are on your trip. Aunt Sage said.

Sarah raced around the house until she was seated at the kitchen table with her pencil and paper.

Ok Auntie, I’m ready. Sarah said as she shook with excitement.

Sarah listened carefully and wrote word for word what Aunt Sage told her. When she was finished writing, she quickly looked over the paragraph to make sure she didn’t miss anything.

What does it mean Auntie? Sarah asked.

You will need to learn that on your journey my Bug. Aunt Sage replied.

But what if I don’t? Sarah asked in a panic.

Doodles, listen to me. You are very smart. Aunt Sage said. You will know.

    Sarah wasn’t so sure.

    "Take Brisco with you
