About this ebook
Early morning. Ceremony preparations begin.
Amida stares out at the roots of the trees.
"Amida! Hurry! The speakers are about to set the last piece. We need your voice to sing the opening of the ceremony."
Amida turns from the precipice, and so--
It begins.
But wait! What will this transformation bring?
Rei Rosenquist
Rei Rosenquist first remembers life as seen out the high window of a hotel balcony. Down below is a courtyard, swarms of brightly dressed tourists, the beach. The memory is nothing but a blue-green washed image. Warmth and sunlight. Here, they are three years old, and this is the beginning of a nomadic story-teller’s life. Over the years, they have traveled to many countries, engaged many peoples, picked up new habits, and learned new languages. But, some things never change. For them, these are stories, food service, and traveling. These three passions have bloomed from hobbies, studies, and jobs into a way of life. These days, Rei can be found in between Tokyo, Kailua, and Bellingham, Washington pouring beautiful latte art, baking off a batch of famous savory scones, and cozying up with a laptop to obsessively write mountains of dark speculative fiction. CHAPTER 1
Early morning—before anything—I stood on the precipice of a massive orange and tan rock outcropping.
My naked toes curled around the edge as I stared out across the dry barren land. The sun as it came into view over the mottled blue-green tops of way off torapora trees. From this distance, their leaves looked more like fluff than vegetation shifting slightly in the wind. The torapora trees, even as I gazed upon them, remained silent to me.
If I turned around, I would see my peoples’ home. The long narrow grass thatched logs, handmade by generation after generation of thatching hands, marked the outer-most ring of our community. Green, brown, orange, and yellow tents and lean-toes made of a wide variety of found and pounded materials covered the daily market. A vein that ran in a circle around the inner dwellings.
In the center of the circle was the twisted sand-colored body of the Tower with it’s windows and spires that blended into the land. It’s reaching arms like leaves, spires like branches reaching. It’s crystalline center of energy glowing sapphire blue, deep amethyst, and sharp glittering white. Butted up against the Tower – the Rising Circle stuffed full
