“Hell, no.” She said. “They are locked in a safe at Bo’s gas station and garage and taxidermy shop and convenience store. I don’t buy NRA self defense bullshit. Nobody in my family ever has. The only time I ever touch them, these days, is when my big brother takes me on a hunting weekend with him.” She sipped again. “Even then, it’s not really about killing. A rifle is like a fishing rod: you use it to harvest food from nature – only the rod is for water, and the rifle is for the woods. For me, it’s also about having quality time with my big brother. So, it makes sense that he keeps my guns for me. He has my fishing rods too, by the way. I would love you to meet him someday soon.” She took another sip. “Your turn. Tell me something.”

By now, I was tipsy enough blush into a scarlet facial color. I took another shallow swallow of beer. “I have said, that before you, I never had an orgasm, right?”

“Yes.”

“So, that is not the confession. Let me give you the real one. I have been curious about sex toys over the last few days, but I have been afraid to ask you about them.”

A semi-sad look came over her face. “Why?”

“I don’t know. It’s – it’s just been a gradual process for me,” I made a flappy hand gesture between us. “Getting used to this big life change has been challenging.”

I giggled and picked up my phone. “Can I show you some photos? And can you tell me if you’ve used them?”
Carter tilted her head back and heartedly laughed at the ceiling. There was a giggle-snort at the end of that – with the back of her hand over her mouth and her knuckles resting against her nose. “Oh, dear God. Babe, bring it on!”
