Dedication
This book is dedicated to my children, Kemar, Alix, and Jamisha who went with me through my years of testing. I am eternally grateful for them holding out with me. They are my three precious treasures. Being their mom is my greatest reward.
To my family who was there for me in my ups and downs, thank you.
To my Apostle J. Tannar, my Pastor S. People, and all of my Rhema Family, a special thank you for your support and kindness to my children and me. I am committed to you.
Acknowledgement
I would like to acknowledge the many Pastors, Apostles, and Prophets who have graced us with their presence at Rhema Word New Life Ministry. Every seed that you sow into my life has taken root and has caused growth in my spirit. May you all keep speaking the word of God in season and out of season. Root up, tear down, and build. May the Lord bless you all a thousandfold. Love you all.
Introduction
This book is written to bring knowledge to the reader that I managed to break free from the Spirit of Religion. You who are stuck in that same place can also break free with God opening your eyes to the truth.
It is a choice whether you want to be free or you want to remain in that place of bondage. I trust you will want to be free and walk in the liberty that God gave us.

Chapter 1
What is a Religious Spirit
The word religious derives from religion. Religion is just anything that you do over and over. You can religiously go to church, where you go to church one way and come home the same way, with no change.
A religious spirit can live any kind of way and go to church without any conviction. Church becomes somewhere to go, just like you would go to work or go shopping. It has no effect or changes on you. A religious spirit can shack up with a man or woman and then sing in the choir, teach Sunday school, and be on the Usher Board and other offices in the church without any conviction.
Drinking alcohol, smoking, cursing, and all other ungodly acts are regular lifestyle practices that a religious spirit enjoys. It does not bother them as long as they are in church when services are held. James 1:26 says If any man among you seem to be religious and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vein.
Character and Conduct
When you ask a lot of people these days if they are saved, they say yes because they go to church. They think it is ok to live any kind of way. Salvation is the number one thing. It is Repentance, Baptism, and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Once you receive salvation, character and conduct become very important. We should start having the character of Christ and behave in ways that represent Christ. When the world sees you going to church they will try to see the difference between what you do and what they do. If your life is not reflecting Christ then that will discourage them from wanting to change their life.
Whether you believe it or not, once you go to church, you are watched by those who do not go to church. They make their judgment based on what they have to change and what they can keep. If they see the person living with their mate and are not married, the person can’t tell them that it is wrong. If the person going to church is seen drinking, smoking and all other things that are not pleasing to the Lord, they can’t tell them anything. Our light has to be seen. Psalm 36:9 says, "For with thee is the fountain of life, in thy light shall we see light. It is sad but true to say, that people going to church who are not saved cannot shine what they do not have. They have to totally surrender their life to God and let him change their lifestyle into saints of God with Holiness. Then and only then will others see the light in them.
Body Language
A religious spirit can also be detected by body language. Without the person saying a word, you can see so much by their body language. One can be going to church all the time but their attitude stinks. Your facial expression turns everyone off. I can tell you about those facial expressions because I personally had a face without any smile. Now I know that people may have been saying that they don’t want my God because I had no joy. We have to be so careful about the
