    Alice opened his eyes and stretched lazily. The sheet under him, as usual, was huddled into an uneven ball, and the pillow was covered with brown spots from drool that escaped in a dream mixed with the red dry wine drunk the night before.

    His left hand automatically reached for the next pillow, but stopped halfway there. This pillow had been emptying for two months now, but Alice couldn't get used to it. Helen died.
