    Chapter 1

    A Tale of Three Fairies

Once upon a time, there were three beautiful fairy sisters.

The wisest of all fairies was the yellow fairy, who adorned herself with green leaves, grass, and colorful flowers. This fairy ensured that the world ran smoothly, brought morning and night, grew various vegetation, created living organisms with unique qualities, and gave life and death as needed. Balance and harmony were her priorities. She always cared for her two younger sisters and mothered them, which is why she was called Mother Nature.

The most generous fairy was the pink middle sister, colored in red, orange, and pink. Her duty was to assure peace. She created munificent deeds, pleasures, and positivity. This fairy's name was Love.

The blue fairy embellished herself with purples, blacks, studs, spikes, and gems. She was the youngest and most mesmerizing. As the vainest fairy, creatures faced peril if they exceeded her beauty. This fairy was named Hate. Her duty was to wreak havoc on the world, and she performed her job enthusiastically. She enjoyed introducing cruel people into the world. Her purpose was to bring balance to the good times so they may be more appreciated. However, Hate only viewed her work as a way to have fun.

Hate desired to be the most powerful and beautiful of all! If she felt anyone threatened her with these qualities, she would cause tragic accidents to end their lives! After this consistent abuse of her powers, it became abundantly clear to Nature that she had to put a stop to these deaths. Therefore, Nature turned these mortals' fates over to Love, who passed down a magical gift to them—the gift of miracles. Hate grew enraged, so she inflicted great suffering upon alluring mortals. Love continuously tried to aid these mortals, but Hate never ceased to cause them problems.

Love felt hopeless as she fluttered over to sit on her favorite mountain top to ponder. What should she do? She couldn't control her sister's magical powers or their effects. The only solution for her was to discuss these issues with Nature. Love flew past the clouds and stars to the fairy dimension. It took her a little time, but she eventually found her sister communing with elder fairies. Once Nature and the elders finished talking, Love and Nature privately scrutinized a plan.

I say you grant these mortals the gift of a happily ever after, Nature suggested.

What do you mean? Love wanted clarification.

"When Hate spins issues and chaos, turn her tortures into something beautiful. The evil she causes will give her victims a happy ending. Perhaps, through this, you can prevent her from finding further victims, and she may learn that her powers shouldn't be evil but rather cause evil to show people the value of good. You can help others and teach her, Nature explained, give someone the magical gift of a happily ever after."

Love beamed in agreement. The challenge she was to take on began with a young princess named Bonnie.

    Chapter 2

A Tale of The Sleeping Beauty

There once was a princess whose beauty outshined all creatures—magical, non-magical, mortal, or immortal—and her name was Bonnie.

At thirteen, the brown-haired and green-eyed Princess Bonnie was active in her community. She befriended everyone from rich to poor. Bonnie would play games such as croquet or join sports such as archery. The princess fed the poor, gave to the needy, nursed the sick, helped with remedies, helped the poor and commoners seek employment well suited for their needs, and took citizen complaints to her father when laws needed amending. When riots or fights arose, she would intervene, assist with any injuries, and consider alternatives to resolve issues without the use of violence.

Bonnie enjoyed hobbies like the piano, singing, drawing, painting, reading, sewing, chess, playing with servants, family time, and learning. Her favorite studies were art, arithmetic, music, literature, philosophy, and history. The staff proclaimed that Bonnie was a bundle of joy.

Not a soul would utter a word of disapproval for the lovely little princess. She was amiable, benevolent, and beloved by all who knew her.

Hate, known by all in the land as the Dark Fairy, was jealous of Bonnie's beauty, for she demanded to be the fairest of them all.

On his daughter's fourteenth birthday, the king hosted a celebration. The citizens were shocked to see the Dark Fairy, for none of the creatures and immortals received invitations.

Hate had decided it would be more intimidating if she spoke to the King directly about her evil plot while she took a jab at his daughter's fate. Additionally, speaking in front of an entire audience? Oh, what a thrill!

Pity, I wasn't invited. Care to explain why? Hate taunted.

It wasn't personal. I didn't believe magical and immortal creatures, such as Your Excellency, would be so interested in attending a mere lowly mortal's activities, so I invited no one of your kind. I certainly meant no offense. The trembling King exerted himself to appease any blow. Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain for an unforgiving and uncompassionate fairy whose sole intent was to harm.

Well, offense taken! You didn't bother to ask whether our kind would be interested or not! For your cruelty, I curse your beloved daughter! On Bonnie's sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep, like death, forever! Never can this curse be broken!

Hate could not make her die, but she could still get rid of her! She had found a loophole! She cackled as everyone stood in shock and horror. The royal family wept and begged Hate to take back the curse, but she only laughed more at their pitiful pleas.

Suddenly, Love emerged from a pink and fluorescent glow that illuminated the ballroom.

Indeed! The curse is unbreakable, but it is alterable! she shouted. The crowd looked up at Love in awe. Hope gleamed in their eyes as she continued, On Bonnie's sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep, like death, but it will not be forever. In a hundred years, she will awaken with a kiss, and the only one who will be counting these dreadful and miserable days and years will be the Dark Fairy herself, for all of you will be sleeping, preserved, with the princess.

Outraged, Hate demanded, What are you doing here, Love?

Nature permitted me to intervene in your treacherous schemes, Love stated smugly. She was confident in outwitting her sister in this battle.

You have no right! Hate snapped in irritation.

Rights or not; never seemed to stop us before.

You hypocrite! You talk about obeying rules while you constantly break them! The only ones you haven't broken are the ones that are impossible to break, such as overriding my actual magic curses and spells!

"Sis, the difference between you and me is that you purposefully disobey rules, while I unintentionally break them because I have to clean up messes caused by your rule-breaking in the first place! I'll have you know, though, that I am currently breaking no rules right now! Our sister and the elder fairies have all agreed that reforming this rule is a necessity from now on because you are out of control!" Love threw back at Hate.

The fairy siblings continued to argue on their way out of the doors, taking their bright blue and pink glows with them and leaving the quiet ballroom darker than before and full of bewildered and frightened people.

Although the king was grateful for the salvation that Love had given the royal family, he was still terrified of the enchanted sleep, so he ordered his guards to burn all the spinning wheels from existence.

Despite entertaining with a juggler, dancing, and inviting citizens and magical creatures to the castle ballroom, Bonnie's fifteenth birthday party was solemn because everyone dreaded the upcoming year. No matter how grand or fun the party was, delicious the food was, beautifully elegant the princess looked, or the amount of entertainment attempted, a heavy gray cloud still seemed to loom over the audience. The atmosphere caused Bonnie to worry more for the following year. It was worse than she could have imagined.
