    [Reuters; PA]: Y-Law #3, the third of the Youth Laws introduced this year by the new Britain Now party government and its Youth Task Force (YTF), was announced this morning to immediate effect.

    ‘YL#3’ greatly extends the powers stated in Y-Law #1, which saw 20 youth detention centres opened across the country plus the formation of the YTF and Juvenile Justice Patrol; and Y-Law #2, which established minimum six-month custodial sentences or detention for an indeterminate time on Patrol bases for any crime committed by citizens aged between 13 and 18. All three laws have been passed in response to the extensive riots last year which led to dozens of deaths and billions of pounds’ worth of damage caused to public space and buildings.

    Now Y-Law 3 mandates for minimum six-month Centre sentences for a wide range of new offences previously classed as misdemeanours under YL#2 (see Reprimands Timeline, p.2). These include school truancy, using alcohol and other drugs, trespassing, theft and any form of physical violence including peer-on-peer fights. . The new law also introduces a
