The Magic of the Old Oak Tree - Donna S. Sims
Preface
This book is written to share creative bedtime stories Donna told her children when they were young. At the time, they were still in Kindergarten. Like most military families, the boys moved around a lot. For almost two years; a lengthy deployment, and stay back orders meant that their dad couldn’t come. All the moves came with their own set of challenges, but not having their dad around made settling in more difficult. Donna would make the stories personal by using her son’s names as the main characters to help them feel empowered to turn things around. In the stories, the boys would use their imaginations to go on long adventures, have an amazing time, and then come home exhausted and ready for bed. This made the boys smile!
They loved hearing the stories again, and again. Jacob in particular would ask his mom to tell a new story every night. On one occasion, Rodger said, Mom you should put these stories in a book,
Jacob added Yeah, ten chapters!
As a result, this book is published to fulfil a promise Donna made to her sons. We hope you like the stories too. God Bless.
CHAPTER ONE
Looking for Keys
Long long ago, their once lived two boys, one was named Rodger and the other was named Jacob. The boys had a very kind Grandmother who loved to bake. She would bake wonderful cakes and pies to share them with all the children in the neighborhood. The boys loved visiting their Grandmother, because she would let them help her prepare the treats and deliver them to the kids in the neighborhood.
The boys thought that was so much fun. They especially loved it when Grandma would let them go outside and play in her backyard. When no one was looking, the boys would sneak off deep into the woods to play inside this very old oak tree. The old oak tree was magic! It would bring to life everything the boys could ever imagine.
All they had to do was sing a song they had learned from the keeper of the old oak tree. Whatever you think it is to be, it’s the magic of the old oak tree.
The keeper’s name was Mr. Stimer. The boys thought, he was amazing. They met him the first time they came near the tree. He was a really gingerly old man. He was looking for the keys to his house, and he thought he could find it near the old oak tree.
At that time the boys did not realize that Mr. Stimer lived inside the old oak tree and that he was referring to the old oak tree as his home. Right away Rodger told Jacob not to talk to the old man. They were never supposed to talk to strangers no
