Dr. Edward Knox has put his finger on some of the critical issues people face when they have lost their loved one. In this book he points out to his readers that grief is normal and healthy, but it is the way one responses to grief.
Dr. Knox looks at grief and bereavement in the church as well as in the Bible. He also points out to his readers where the image of grief can be found in the Bible. Dr. Knox gives the reader several definitions such as, Grief is our reaction to loss.
In addressing the problem of grief, Dr. Knox gives readers the correct and the incorrect way to grieve. He reveals to pastors and counselors how they should counsel a grief-stricken person or family. In addition, he reveals how grief and bereavement issues should be resolved.
I recommend that all pastors and counselors, as well as church leaders, read God's Grace through Grief. It would also benefit funeral home owners and their employees. Dr. Knox directs us to take our grief to the Lord Who is able to see us through our grief experience. It is a book worth buying and reading.
Reverend Dr. Joseph R. Jordan, D. Min
I can’t express the elation I feel at this outstanding inspirational book focusing on handling grief. None of us escape the pressures of losing someone; pressures of losing someone precious and meaningful to us and suddenly, without warning we are confronted with grief in its most profound dressing.
We all handle it differently and manifest outwardly various elements of relief. Sometimes we do so and regain our balance in a short period and others take considerably longer. Dr. Knox’s direction brings to light all facets of this very complex emotion and enable anyone to grasp something that can help comprehend where you are and how to embrace a solution that places us at peace with the loss.
This is a must read for all of us and I will certainly encourage my friends and relatives to consider what they will do and seek answers in your book. Magnificent literature.
Andre' L. Lee, DPA, FACHE, Hospice President
