Introduction
This book examines relationship decisions that Jesus made during His powerful three-year ministry while on earth. Jesus is an immortal, God in the flesh, and the Word Incarnate. Also, Jesus is the Son of God the Father. The Lord was endowed with pure infinite grace and was also full of power and the Holy Spirit. Thus, what He accomplished in human flesh was beyond anything any mere mortal could do. Yes, as heirs of Christ, we have God's Spirit in us and can do many miracles Jesus did, such as healing, raising the dead, and giving anointed preaching. But Jesus was Love in the flesh. He was sinless, holy, and set apart for the most incredible destiny any person could ever have.
In fact, the Old Testament in the Bible is full of prophecies about Jesus. In addition, Jesus made appearances to some people in the Old Testament. One such occasion was when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were thrown into a fiery furnace because they refused to bow down and worship the gods of King Nebuchadnezzar.
However, the teens did not burn, and Jesus appeared with them in the fire. The king said, Look I see four men untied, walking around in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt! And the appearance of the fourth is like ‘a son of the gods!'
(Daniel 3:25). Jesus was the fourth man in the fire. After that, the king said that all the people should worship the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. The devotion to God those young men had was amazing. They would rather burn in a fire than worship a false god. God rewarded them by sending His Son, Jesus, to protect them in the midst of the fire.
There is a lot to learn from the life of Jesus. We can try to be like Him by making some of the decisions He made in relationships with others. However, we cannot be Him as He was God, all-powerful and full of pure love. Anything we do accomplish that is good and noble, we can do because of God's grace.
Learn from the life of Jesus as you read this book. This book is but a shadow of His extraordinary life while on earth and the decisions He made in relationships. We can learn so much from how Jesus treated others. Even the four gospels about the life of Jesus are not comprehensive. At the end of the gospel of John, it says Jesus did so many other things that if they were recorded, the world could not contain all the books that would be written.
Jesus is a gift from God. We are so blessed that He left heaven to live on earth among people and took residence in a human body. The world is a much better place because Jesus came to live on earth.
People who doubt the Bible as God's Word will say to me, How do you know what the Bible says is true? You weren't there!
I have the perfect response. No, I was not there, but the people who wrote the Bible were there.
And they were inspired by the Holy Spirit; thus, God wrote the Bible by telling His people what to write from their experiences.
The Relationship with Family and Neighbors
There are many prophecies in the Old Testament about Jesus being born and what He would do after He started His ministry. Jesus was going to be the greatest king on earth ever and forever.
For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace, [He shall rule] on the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From that time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:6–7)
John the Baptist was a cousin of Jesus, who was appointed before his birth to be named John and given the special purpose to announce to everyone to get ready because the Lord was coming.
John was not an ordinary person. He wore clothing made of camel's hair and had a wide leather band around his waist, and he ate locust and wild honey
(Mark 1:6). John the Baptist had a special mission: to point Jesus out to the Jews in Galilee. The prophet Isaiah prophesied regarding John the Baptist:
Behold, I send My messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way—a voice of one shouting in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight!
(Isaiah 40:3)
Thus, there were prophecies about Jesus and some about His cousin John before they both had their supernatural births.
The angel Gabriel revealed to Zacharias that Elizabeth, his wife, would bear a great son to be named John. Zacharias, a priest, was burning incense at the altar in the temple when the angel approached him with the news. Elizabeth was barren and old, so he doubted the angel Gabriel's words. Thus, Gabriel told him he would be silent until the day when Elizabeth gave birth to his son.
The people [outside in the court] were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering about his long delay in the temple. But when he did come out, he was unable to speak to them. They realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute. (Luke 1:21–22)
(Months later, when Elizabeth gave birth to their son, John, Zacharias could speak again.)
The angel Gabriel also appeared to Mary (Elizabeth's relative) and told her she had found favor with God and that Jesus's birth would be conceived by the Holy Spirit inside her. He would be called the Son of God. Gabriel also said that her Son's kingdom would have no end. Mary was told His name was to be Jesus. Mary said to Gabriel,
Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word. (Luke 1:38)
Mary's humble submission made possible God's plan of Jesus being born to a virgin. Mary knew she would be misunderstood her whole life on earth by some of her family and neighbors because she became pregnant before her marriage to Joseph. But she was obedient no matter what the cost because she knew she was blessed among all women to be pregnant with the Child of the Most High. However, God also foreknew Mary was going to say yes, or else, He would not have chosen her in the first
