    Life

Life as what stood was at a standstill from running the streets since the start of 6th grade, discovering the sweet smell of reefer sneaking into basement parties rocking the latest gear plaid skirts, knee boots, waist line leathers with bamboo door knockers and the jealousy that came along with being the prettiest and best dressed. Diamond and Destiny Smith fraternal twins born July 4th 1979 to Lasean Smith were becoming the baddest looking girls around the way. No matter how good they perceived to be everyone knew they had bad tempers like the strike of a match lit to burn. Heaven, older by two years was their sister and the backbone of their family. Born January 1st 1977 she always brought new meaning to the New Year. She would always have little surprises for her sisters on their birthday. Which were always the newest firecrackers in every style. Every time Lasean would ask how she was able to get them she would always tell her she saved her allowance or helped a neighbor with groceries.

Lasean began running the streets more now that her girls were getting older and once she saw how responsible Heaven was watching over her sisters. What she didn’t see was that Heaven had no choice but to care for the twins and become an adult early in life, since she would disappear. It started off every weekend and ended in everyday. Lasean quickly brought home from the streets a habit called alcoholism and with that also came the niggas. Now with a mother strung out on booze and men, Heaven taught the girls the responsibility of being a young woman. With no mother around and no father, unknown to all three, the streets of Boston became home.

In the bean there was always some type of excitement; being a small city the areas were so close news spread faster than lightening and as always in Boston everyone knew each other, there mamma’s, daddy’s you name it and the stories behind each one so you know the Smiths were well known as well from Esmond St. to New York City. They had a solid upbringing with a few loose crews. For instance Lasean was fucking with every man she could get to spend a few dollars on beer. She partied every night and when Sundays came she made her way to the bootleggers. A lot of women had it out for her for fucking with their men and during the early to mid 80’s a lot of street gang plus project wars erupted.

It was a Tuesday night September 25th ’89 Lasean sent the girls this time to her best friend Tea’s house who was also their godmother right up stairs from her. She stopped associating with her family since her mom passed back in ’75 when none of them had the respect to come down from NY and pay their last respects, still holding a stupid grudge with her for getting pregnant with Lasean at 14 and moving to Boston to start a new life on her own. So she had no one else to keep an eye on them and got tired of Tea threatening to beat her ass if she left them home alone again. So off she went to The Gallery because it was 70’s night. Being who she was with her caramel skin tone and grey eyes she wore her thick block braids in a slanted cut that showed off her fresh line up and design in the back of her head. A red one-piece Louis Vuton adorned her thick curves and of course she caught eyes center stage. Walking seductively up to the bar with that yea I’m the baddest bitch strut she said Shawn I’d like ah bourbon on the rocks and a straight shot. Sean licked his lips like LL and said for you, baby you can have the world Lasean thought to herself I wish… I need to get fucked up and find this nigga Tony. Suddenly a tall strong voice approached her from behind then she felt the strong yet soft hold wrap around her waist, and the shit felt good can I take you home tonight Lasean? She decided to play along nope and I’ll give you 3 reasons why 1st your not man enough to approach me face to face, 2nd you probably got a bitch in here and 3rd you never offered me a drink was her last comment as she turned around now to face him. Damn your outspoken I love that shit and I don’t have a lady, I’m not scared to face you and you already have a drink. She rolled her eyes at the fly ass specimen in her space and said to herself I need more fucking with you.

Staring from a far stood a woman with hatred in her eyes not from the guy see saw but from Lasean the same bitch that had the audacity to show her face back in the club after she found her boning her husband in the bathroom stall last week. I’m about to kill this bitch the chick mumbled and walked up to the bar. Turning from the guy she was talking too, Lasean felt eyes on her and turned to reach them only to see a 2.2 starring her into life after death within a blink of an eye the trigger was pulled and Lasean was left lying face down on the floor.

One hour later Lasean Smith was pronounced dead on arrival she was only 31. News spread quickly about Laseans demise everyone knew the cause but as you know once one tells the story it gets fucked up till it’s nothing from the truth. Tea was sitting in her living room when the phone rang hello yea what’s up…uh huh no…no you’re lying she said as tears fell when, how… I can’t tell them…this shit is crazy…okay I’ll talk to you later she hung up the phone and went upstairs to where the kids were all sleeping and looked in her sons room. They were fast asleep she thought about waking them then changed her mind and shut the door. Going back down stairs she cried herself to sleep.

Wednesday morning the kids were running all through the house. Heaven was watching TV while the twins were in the kitchen eating cereal. Tea awoke to a loud crashing sound her 7yr old son Thomas had fallen down the stair with his Tonka truck. What the fuck…oh shit what time is it Tea said stretching 10 o’clock, when’s my mom coming to get us? Heaven answered then asked. Remembering tears started to fall again from Tea’s eyes I’m sorry… I’m so sorry Heaven… Diamond, Destiny come in here! she yelled out. Heaven looked at her worried what’s wrong T.T? coming closer to her as the twins entered the room. Tea grabbed the girls pulling them all close I got some very bad news shit…your mom…your mom isn’t coming home she sobbed. Destiny asked why not? What she got a hangover and can’t get out of bed? Diamond jumped in nah she probably got Tony or Eric or Mark over Heaven sucked her teeth shut up ya’ll. What is it Tea? Why you crying? she looked at all of them and broke down more. She… She… She’s dead. A deep silence, sorrow, and then ongoing screams came from 5 Esmond Street. It was so hard to hear it but what now. What was it meaning; life as they knew it was at a stance.

    Moving On

Since the passing of their mother it brought drastic change quickly to the Smith girls. Heaven and the twins, now orphans, were still minors with no place to call home. Since Tea wasn’t officially documented as the girls legal godparent and the only family they had was now deceased in Boston and they had no way of contacting the Smiths still living in NY they were forced to live in DSS. It was very hard not knowing whether to keep them together or separate them brought more trials and tribulations. Heaven now 13 was hit with the hard reality that there was no family to love them, no one to care for them, so every night she prayed to Jesus to keep them together. Unfortunately the twins were adopted by a high priced white family and Heaven was adopted by a middle class black couple a week later. They would never understand how much their lives would soon change.

Coming into 5yrs since their separation the girls kept in contact as much as possible and within this time frame the girls once known had now begun to blossom into women. Their lives were very different now yet very much the same. In the Clarence house hold who would have known that these high priced whities were nothing more than the devil itself. Quincy, Ma was home to all the high class, white collared power attorneys and the Sin Mafia’s drug headquarters officially since 1945 the Marina Bay is where they reigned. Mrs. Lisa Clarence wasn’t allowed the opportunity to conceive children so they looked into adopting and was lucky to get the twins. Following up Jim found out they had a well known family and that their only relative left, their mother, was just recently gunned down. With no knowledge of any of their fathers or any documentation to find them they were subject to be alone. So he told one of his best friends and Big Boss James Loose Irvan about the beautiful Heaven Smith. Knowing Loose longed for a daughter he adopted her the next week. Jim knew one day he’d leave his legacy to his children and having made the rule No Women Allowed would surely test his family loyalty especially with black kids, so the saga begins.

Clarence walked in the den to where Lisa was sitting and watched her as she cradled her favorite drink a tall seven sea’s long island and startled her Lisa where are my girls at I need to speak to them now? Looking at him like he was crazy for scaring her she said with an attitude they went to the mall with the chauffer Clarence starred at her hard what have I told you about letting them go out! Money, Money, Money that’s all they do is spend my money! Their lazy and they don’t clean shit around here! Lisa smirked at his comment they’re not suppose to Jim that’s what we got a maid for. That smart remark made him flip figure of fucking speech damn all you do is talk, talk, talk shut the fuck up sometime. When they get in here I need to see them ASAP I have plans for our future. Lisa just looked at him and continued nursing her drink.

On the inner city of Jamaica Plain Heaven lived in Bromley Heath Projects with her new family the Irvans. The P as everybody called it was a goldmine and James-aka-Loose Irvan was Heaven’s dad and the king of all drug lords. He was also a man with an associate’s degree in business ownership owning 4 stores in the J.P. to Dorchester areas. Liquor store drive-in’s where you can drive in to buy drinks but really drive out with drugs. Money was booming and envy was hot Loose Irv knew he had a lot of drama so going everywhere with his 45 was a must. Even to shit in his own house without it was a no no. He was seeing too much money to be sleeping without his grip and in all of his 35 yrs with 17 of which he spent hustling, Loose was sitting on millions and living in the ghetto with four boys and Heaven who he considered his own since the day he first laid eyes on her. He loved her dearly always wanting a little girl of his own. Mrs. Irvan had started getting high so Heaven again had to take on the motherly role cooking, cleaning, and looking after everyone. It was hell for her but she loved them for taking her in. They were now her family.

Loose had walked in the house from the cold and saw his baby girl at the kitchen table with her head tucked in her hands. Giving her a half hug and a kiss on the forehead he said Hi sweetie, how’s my baby girl today? Heaven still sitting with her head in her hands too tired to even look up said I’m fine daddy oh really then why you slouched over the table with your head in your hands? Irv noted at her posture waiting on her response. Heaven sat up straight I’m tired of doing everything. Josh, Eric, Irvan, and Rick don’t help me at all and Ma…all she does is get high all day in the bathroom!! she said now crying and Loose embraced her hugging her like only a father would when comforting his little girl except she was blossoming into a beautiful young lady.

I’m so sorry for all of this baby girl I know this shit is hard but it will all pay off. Your mom is a piece of shit, the bitch is just gone and not coming back. You’re the only girl I got left and your dads gonna make sure your happy dead or alive. So here and wipe your face I hate it when you cry he said reaching into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. He counted out ten hundreds and passed it to her go shopping or something and have some fun I’ll make the boys stay in and pull their own weight around this bitch He smiled at her and she smiled back for real daddy thank you so much. Keeping up with school and the house she had for gotten about her own birthday that was in two days. Loose was about to head towards his bedroom and turned back around oh and Heaven Happy 18th look outside Eyes wide open now she dashed to the front door and swung it open. Mouth wide open starring her dead in the face was a new 1994 Cadillac Deville with 18 gold spoked rims. Jumping on her dad all thrilled she put kisses all over his face daddy you’re the best father ever. I love you so much I got to get dressed. Loose laughed at how happy she was and how quick she ran up the stairs tripping in the process. Anything for my baby girl then he yelled up to her almost forgetting Heaven when you come back home we need to talk armano to armano okay" she yelled back while looking in the closet of all her designer clothes for something to wear. Picking out a Red & Black Nike jogging suit with matching Air 1’s she was curious about what else Irv had to talk about but was too excited about her new car and the G in her pocket. She had just got her license and was tired of walking and taking the MBTA. Loose cared and made sure from the day she moved in that he remembered her birthday every year which could never be forgotten since it was New Years and would fill her with gifts of all kinds being the only girl, but this shit topped everything.

Back in the Clarence Home it was now 8pm and Jim was in his office drinking a glass of straight Brandy. Looking over some important documents he needed the girls
