Foreword
Prepare to go on a journey as you read Esther: Hiding in Plain Sight. The author places a microscope on the biblical story of Esther, the Israelite captive, whom God uses to save his people Israel from annihilation. The story line seems straight forward. But get ready for discoveries into the past’s history, well before Esther’s saga begins. You will learn things scarcely known that add great significance to this small book of the Bible. You will also be taken into the future, long after Esther and the other characters in this story have passed away. You will observe the insidious scheme of God’s enemy to thwart the Creator’s ultimate plan of the salvation of His human offspring through Jesus Christ. And you will thrill at the divine orchestration of God’s love-plan through the millennia of human history. Jesus the Messiah is the center of the story. Salvation is the theme. As you read, remember that you also are loved by God and have a destiny in his great plan of redemption.

I first heard Esther’s story as a child in Sunday school. It seemed like a fairy tale: the young orphaned girl becomes a Queen and lives happily ever after with her prince charming! Cute but neither biblically nor historically accurate. Esther’s story is much more than a children’s fairy tale, and this book will masterfully help the reader understand that the one true God is a God of accuracy, fulfilled promises, and blessing beyond what we imagine. Prepare to be immersed in an ancient story with eternal significance. Prepare to have your eyes opened to God’s big picture for all of humanity. Truly, the kingdoms of this world must all eventually bow to the Kingdom of our God.

Introduction
Twenty years ago, in a little church we attended, the congregation desired to put on a Revelation seminar. We had no pastor at the time and certainly could not afford to hire an evangelist. So those of us that were elders decided to do it ourselves. We split up portions of the seminar, and I ended up with the section that dealt with the prophecies of Daniel. During my preparation, as I was going over events and timelines, I stumbled upon Esther’s nearness to Daniel. As the Holy Spirit led me to contemplate her story, things began to fall into place. Her relationship with the Messiah’s story, I had never put together prior to this. Indeed, I have yet to hear anyone else place them together like this.
After completing this manuscript, I am confirmed in the import of her story with the Messiah. I hope that you find this nugget hiding in plain sight as exciting as I have found it to be. God bless your journey. I will have more in my series to share soon.
Chapter 1
Setting the Stage
Well, fellow travelers, it is 12:20 a.m. A new journey begins, yet much of the landscape looks all too familiar. It seems as if we have to wage a battle over the same territory every day. Until the war is over our adversary is going to keep hitting us where we have been weak. Hitting us where we have fallen before. We shouldn’t be surprised. Doesn’t it make sense to keep attacking an opponent where they are weakest, where you have experienced success in the past? Why would you change and attack a fortified area when a softer flank exists? It is logical. We must respond in kind. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:31 that we must die daily. Self has to die every day. The same self, the same ground, our selfish, evil nature has to be given up every single day. If we begin our day reconciled with Christ who was made sin for us that we might be partakers of his righteousness, then we are hidden in him (1 Corinthians 5:17–21). We put on his armor like Paul in Ephesians 6 tells us that we might become strong in Christ’s strength. We become his ambassadors whom he will protect. When we do this every day, we become stronger. The battle over the same ground will still occur, but we will advance over it faster each time and reach new territory. We expand our
