About this ebook

At birth, Mr. Jorgensen was not only premature but well under five pounds. With no one present other than two of his mother's sisters, he was first thought to be a still born. He not only survived his birth, but a near drowning at age four, being orphaned at six, a fish hook in his right eye at eleven, combat duty (machine gunner) in Korea, and thirty years as a middle school teacher. His religious belief is that God intervenes both in critical situations but also in far less important events in one's life. His memoir is his hope of encouraging others to determine if events in their life might be examples of divine intervention.

Several events (or situations) from his birth to the present testify to this ninety-three-year-old man’s belief in divine intervention.

Kermit’s family, both parents and siblings, died young. The math leaves us at an average age at the time of death at 50.8 years. Why has God given Kermit good health and an age approaching nearly double the average? No surgeries of consequence, no cancer, no prostate problems, hernias (or pregnancy)! And 151 days and nights combat duty in Korea!

Honor the father and mother that thy days may be long upon the earth! (Exodus 20:12)

There are numerous people named in my book whom I feel deserve honoring, plus those who have been encouraging me for several years to tell my life story, and the person who holds this book and decides to see what the author has to say about divine intervention.

In fairness to all of the above and without naming them individually, this work is dedicated to you in hope it will impact your thinking. And if you are not enjoying a peaceful and joyous life, that your journey here on earth will last long enough for you to find the gift mentioned in Philippians 4:7.

This book gives evidence that God’s grace, mercy, love, and concern are extended to all who acknowledge his presence in our existence via his involvement at the most appropriate moment.

May God bless you and make you a blessing to all you meet. Amen.

    Preface

When we are in a situation that ends in an unusual or unexpected way, we can call it odd, weird, or mere coincidence.

Let’s say you stop at the local newspaper with plans for an ad for a part-time janitor. You recently added a new wing. The lady taking the ad reads through what she has written in response to your verbal request. She looks up and says, This is a coincidence. At breakfast, my husband said he’s going to spend much of his day looking for part-time work now that he’s getting bored. He retired after thirty-eight years of custodial work at the high school. He’s in good health and would hope to find a job. Twenty hours a week or four hours, five days would be perfect. Would you be interested in an interview with him? I just can’t believe it. Only an hour since he said he was going to look for work today! The man has experience, twenty hours a week would be totally adequate, so you smile and say to the lady, I hope your hubby doesn’t already have a job. It could easily happen that the first place where he applies needs such a man.

Or you think of a friend from your high school days whom you haven’t seen in ten years (and two kids ago) and then at the grocery store, she’s right ahead of you at the checkout.

These truly may be coincidental but who’s to know for sure? Only God knows and that’s what is important.

    Setting

Every story, play, and event in life must have a time and place when it came to exist. This story began not in 1927 when Mr. Jorgensen was born but in 1918 when World War I (the war to end all wars) ended.

With the war’s end came demands from industry for cash necessary to shift from the manufacture of war goods to goods for the general
