About this ebook

This book deals with the relationship between the appearance of UFOs as part of our conscious reality and the physical evidence left behind that substantiates that reality. The book shows how UFO evidence is examined and evaluates the mind's ability to distort and alter the information that is perceived, further complicating the identification of the unidentified flying object. The phenomenon is examined from a historical perspective, tracing their interaction with the development in our civilization and culture. The startling conclusion addresses the issue of what their presence means in light of the new millennium and how their appearance in ancient history has been a harbinger of major change and upheaval on the earth. A UFO report form is provided by the author in the appendix at the end of the book. A continued study of and investigation into the UFO phenomenon is encouraged. This book includes common modalities that the reader can access to conduct their own continuing investigations.

    Chapter One: Examining the Evidence

If you don’t have an open mind, you’re not a scientist.

    —Robert Rines

In 1948, the US Air Force launched its investigation into the UFO phenomenon. It was known as Project Sign. It was later changed to Project Grudge, and in 1953 it was changed to Project Blue Book. The Condon Project was initiated by Blue Book to continue its investigations into the UFO phenomenon. It was a thorough investigation that included data that would seem to have no relevance to the subject of unidentified flying objects.

Over two years ago the United States Air Force commissioned the University of Colorado to make a study of the UFO phenomenon. This is the full and final report of the work carried about by the University, at a cost of about $500,000 under the direction of the eminent Dr. Edward U. Condon. (Condon Committee)

I bought my first copy of The Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects back in 1996. Being the curator that I am, I was overjoyed to get a good hardcover copy of the masterpiece by Doctor Edward Condon. I threw it on the coffee table, and there it sat for about three weeks. I noticed that I’d look at it, but I wouldn’t crack the cover. Perhaps I was afraid of what I might find when I did. It soon joined the rows of books sitting in my library collection. And there it sat for quite a long time. I used to cringe when I would listen to other authors talking about how the Condon Project was another government cover-up to hide the truth about UFOs to the general public.

Reflecting back on the significance of this book, I hadn’t realized the importance of his scientific study of the UFO phenomena. I ventured to Boston in 1998 to do research. There I formulated the layout for this manuscript. My objective was to publish a book, using a scientific approach to the UFO phenomenon. This preliminary study would determine the viability of a full-scale research project.

That was when I realized the importance of the Condon Committee’s findings. Unfortunately, I hadn’t brought my copy from Seattle. And Seattle is a long way to go for a single book. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a copy from the Copley Square Library in Boston. So having learned my lesson, I began researching Dr. Condon’s work. It wasn’t long before I took the challenge. I decided that a scientific objective was what I needed. After a few red herrings, I was able to find a lot of data that had been overlooked by other students of parapsychology. I admit that I was hooked. I discovered that I would devote an entire chapter to the methodology of Condon Report. If I was to document everything I had learned from my comparative analysis, I could’ve easily devoted an entire manuscript to their work.

What some have said was skepticism amounted to a simple and uneducated approach to a subject that would later become one of the most written-about topics in the world. When we reexamine the evidence, you’ll see that there’s a lot to the study about UFOs. Out of all of the case studies that I reviewed in their case report files, there were only a scant few that remained unexplained. There were some questionable cases that remained in the solved category, as there were a couple of aspects that the Condon Committee considered to be of a questionable nature. These were chosen to be re-examined, because in light of recent discoveries, I felt that they weren’t given enough consideration. What my study of the Condon Report will reveal is that the military is very serious about UFOs, and this alone makes the Condon Report worthy of our consideration. This is proof that UFOs exist as a viable phenomenon.

I had fun with their overly pessimistic approach to some of the more factual cases. As you will see, when we re-examine the Condon Report, we will see the data. There’s evidence that a highly advanced, intelligent race of beings are routinely entering our skies and flying in our airspace unchallenged by our best and deadliest arsenal of weapons. The Condon Committee offers some fresh data in the ’90s and a slice of Americana from the mid-1960s.

The study of UFOs was still infantile by comparison to today’s standards. And the military was hiding some very scary secrets involving the recovery of alleged alien vehicles. These contained a propulsion unit, which looked more like a nuclear bomb than it did a power plant. These units rivaled the nuclear reactors of that era. The military was in total puzzlement over what all this meant. But there was no doubt in their minds that these UFOs posed a threat to the world’s security, and they were going to set out to find exactly where they stood on this matter. Extensive eyes only operations were conducted in a covert manner. People died, and their secret died with them. It was the American way. Our nation was under attack by aliens… from another world.

    The Psychological Effect: Neural Encoding

My sole purpose here is to show that there are people who report an observation of a UFO but, for whatever reason, hadn’t seen one. Let’s explore some of the reasons why it is so easy to misidentify an identified flying object, or IFO.

A sensation depends on the messages arriving at higher sensory centers in the brain in combination with other events simultaneously occurring in these centers. (Michael Wertheimer, Condon Report)

Wertheimer offers up some interesting tidbits of data regarding how the mind receives information. Many authors researching UFOs focus in on the debunking tactics of government-sponsored programs, especially those that are military in nature. Perhaps they are hoping to lend credibility to the subject of UFOs. But by avoiding this data, they are giving the debunkers canon fodder. There is another problem at issue here. They may have overlooked some very pertinent data. This information could potentially give us a broader understanding of ourselves and the universe in which we live.

Knowing the complexity of the UFO phenomenon, I would have to say that its roots lie in fairy tales and legends, religious dogma, and other forms of worship, as well as a plethora of evidence to support the hypothesis that there is another dimension parallel and adjoining ours. There is a way to get in, and there’s a way to get out because the evidence suggests that. Someone or something has been doing it since the beginning of recorded time and before that also, as we shall see later on.

The brain is a mysterious organ. It’s a place where the mind’s state of consciousness resides. The mind is a place where dreams and reality exist side by side. The brain is a place still largely unexplored and remains the most mysterious organ in the human body. For the purpose of our present discussion, however, we need emphasize only the distal events that give rise to UFO reports that always involves the transmission of some form of energy. As we have pointed out earlier, that energy is usually in the visible spectrum (Wertheimer, ibid., page 560).

    The Transmission Process

It is my hope that you find this information useful. It may provide a clearer understanding of the UFO phenomenon as a whole and aid in the handling of UFO sightings that remain unidentified. Author Marc Davenport is a trusted consultant for various UFO publications and others in the field of UFOlogy. He has entertained a popular theory about the nature of the UFO. The objects, which have been labeled flying saucers for lack of a better word, are actually very sophisticated time machines. They surround their vehicles with a field of energy, or energies, and they manipulate these energies to achieve their destinations wherever that may be. By allowing their spacecraft to utilize the angular velocity of the earth, they can achieve velocities at light speeds. Once you achieve light speed, you become pure energy or some form of radiation that exists above and beyond the light/speed barrier.

There is plenty of evidence to support this hypothesis. The energy field that the UFO generates has certain qualities that appear to have the ability to dopplerize various frequencies that lie within the electromagnetic spectrum. This field will dopplerize any form of energy that passes through it, including sensations such as colors that lie within the visible band of the electromagnetic spectrum, light.

The energy is transmitted from the distal source and arrives at the sense organ, where it produces a proximal stimulus, in the form of energy change to which the sense organ is attuned. (Wertheimer, ibid.)

According to Wertheimer, what our sensory organs receive in the form of energy is not an exact copy of the energy that had originally left the distal source, the object we’re experiencing. This is true for any object we’re viewing (e.g., a tree, a horse in a pasture, a car, etc.). It is attenuated and distorted, and often is an incomplete version of the original. He cites one example of this called the mirage effect, which is a product of turbulence in the air and… peculiar temperature inhomogeneities.

What further complicates the issue is that the UFO warps the medium surrounding its hull so that the UFO you’re seeing is not always a true representation of what’s actually there. That visible light you are seeing is only how it exists in our world. One good example of how this would work is to check out the local carnival next time it’s in town. Chances are you’ll find that they have a couple of trick mirrors around. I’m talking about the ones that ripple or distort the visual image before it. The UFO has the same effect on visible light. But it does it in a different way. It generates a gravitational field. If you ask any astronomer, he can tell you how light is refracted and reflected by the gravity waves surrounding suns in other solar systems. This gravity-lensing effect also appears to exist as a component of the UFO encounter. There are specific characteristics that only a skilled investigator would recognize as evidence of a genuine UFO.

Here are other examples of distortions that can affect energy as it leaves the distal source in the atmosphere and reaches the sensory organs as the proximal stimulus:

Meteorological: fog, mist, snow, rain, clouds, temperature layers, etc.—factors that may attenuate modify and distort the stimulus before reaching us

Optical lenses: windshields, cameras, glasses, Plexiglas, even our own eyes

Exhaust and/or heat sources: jet aircraft, a heated surface, an automobile, smoke and air pollution, etc.

Wertheimer states, Frequently, the transmitted energy is so modified by the characteristics of the medium through which it has been transmitted, that the proximal stimulus is far from the exact replica of the energy that left the distal energy source. On numerous occasions, I have had the opportunity to interview eyewitnesses who have been in close proximity to a UFO and its occupants. As I’ve revealed before, the UFO object generates a very powerful field of energy around itself. There is sufficient evidence to support the premise that the UFO pilots themselves have the ability to surround themselves with this invisible force as well. My research has shown that their UFO time machine can somehow transmit this field of force to its occupants when they are in close proximity to their craft. Some have speculated that the reason for this is that they might be slightly out of phase with our space-time continuum, therefore warping time wherever they go.

One would imagine that this might be one side effect of going in and out of our dimension frequently enough so that their point of reference is somewhat impaired. It wouldn’t necessarily matter to them if we were out of phase, because they’re generating the field. They apparently possess the ability to subject whatever matter they desire to this field and influence its activity by it. This is often the case where those in contact with the UFO were rendered immobile and unable to move. A phenomenon frequently reported by those who allege contact with extraterrestrials, this field appears to have the ability to freeze the individual for long periods of time while the intruders conduct their business and/or make their escape.

The point is, merely having a close encounter with a UFO can affect the way an observer interprets the event. The distal object is surrounded by a field that alters the energy emitted by the object to such a degree that the proximal stimulus of the observer has already been altered. Frequently the transmitted energy is… modified by the characteristics of the medium through which it is transmitted. (Michael Wertheimer, Condon report Perceptual Problems, Section VI The Scientific Context.)

Right away, a contact experience event is so distorted that it is not hard to see why close encounters are not always 100 percent accurate. This can certainly work to the
